Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This HUGE 282-page resource covers over 60 Greek and Latin roots and 200 different words. Created for grades 4-8.

Hi! Thank you for this wonderful resource. I am also planning to buy book 2 for next year. Quick question : I was looking for a digital version as I have to sit and type all the sentences to create a quiz. Not being able to copy and paste from PDF. Do you I need to buy that separately even if I have already bought this version?
Thanks for reaching out. These are separate resources as the digital versions take 100s of hours to create. Many digital resources out there are simply an image of a worksheet/printable embedded into a Google Slide with blank text boxes pasted on top of them. Creating digital resources in this manner is a simple process that only takes a few hours. Our digital versions are all created in Google Forms, so teachers can save time using the self-grading feature, which is not available in Google Slides. You can find the digital version of Book 1 here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/DIGITAL-Greek-and-Latin-Roots-Book-1-Distance-Learning-5351808
Hi! I love this resource. I am looking to take a single page to add to a weekly packet for my students. The document says it is password protected? Is there a way to access separating certain pages?
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! Yes, all of our PDFs are password protected to protect from copyright infringement. If you open the file in Adobe Reader, you should be able to select the page thumbnails on the side, choose the pages you do not want, and save that as a separate PDF.
Are the assessments digital? Are any of the worksheets digital that could be assigned on an LMS like Schoology?
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for reaching out. This is a printable resource. If you are looking for the digital version, you can find it here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/DIGITAL-Greek-and-Latin-Roots-Book-1-Distance-Learning-5351808
Hello! Do you sell an editable version of this? I am interested in using this with older students (grades 9-10) and would like to modify it slightly. Thanks!
Unfortunately, we do not have an editable version of this resource because it was created using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
Love the roots and my students are eating it up. Do you have any type of assessment for the roots that you give? Other than the sort (cut and paste)?
Hi there! There is a unit assessment included in each unit!
Just purchased. Would love to know how you break it up over each week in your classroom? Do you do one set of words a week? And how much do you do each day?
Hello! Each unit contains 6+ exercises. You can spend one day on each exercise, or you can cover more than one exercise in a day if you want to spend one week on each unit.
Hi!
I have used several of your Greek & Latin Roots items and love them! I just purchased the "Book 1" in print and I'm wondering if it is possible to add images to the Word Wall Words that would match the meaning of each root opposed to the unicorn and the Greek & Latin people. I think it would be super helpful for my EL students to make the connection between the root and the image.
Hi Joanne! Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I am unable to make this change at this time.
Hi! I'm very excited, I just purchased Book 1 along and the corresponding Power Point Resource. I will most likely be using this as a daily bell ringer activity, so approximately 10 minutes per day. How would you recommend I go about it? Present all ten words on Monday, then follow up with the various activities on the following days? Would you recommend doing 1 unit per week or stretch 1 unit out to 2 weeks?
Hello! Each unit contains 6+ exercises. You can spend one day on each exercise, or you can cover more than one exercise in a day if you want to spend one week on each unit.
Your materials look great. I have a few questions though. I am teaching 7th grade ELA. Each class has about 30-35 students - so I teach a total of 165 students on average. We spend a lot of time on grammar, writing, and reading - but I want to add a fun way to learn vocabulary through Greek and Latin roots. I really like your interactive sketch notebooks, however, does this have accompanying tests or quizzes? I do not want to make tests if I do not have to.
Thank you for reaching out! The Sketch Notes can be used as a standalone resource without quizzes. However, the Sketch Notes pair perfectly with this resource, Get to the Root of It Book 1 (or 2, depending on which Sketch Notes you are using, and include 6+ exercises for the year, including quizzes.
I am interested in your product, but I am struggling in general to find the time to teach grammar. When do you teach this? Daily for 10 minutes, once a week, etc.
I have 45 minutes daily to teach ELA. (I have four ELA classes.)
