Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This HUGE 282-page resource covers over 60 Greek and Latin roots and 200 different words. Created for grades 4-8.
This listing is for the PRINTABLE version only. CLICK HERE for the DIGITAL version.

This product is exactly as described. I am pleased with my purchase. The only thing that I think would really elevate this resource to another level is to have some visual representation that goes along with the roots. Perhaps something you may consider for a future product? Overall, AMAZING and WORTH EVERY PENNY. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I have made a PowerPoints for all of the units with some amazing visuals. You can find them here:

Just what I was looking for! Thanks!
Thank you so much! This will help me tremendously!
I have several of your products and I love them all. I am excited to use this during my word work time. Thanks for your hard work.
Thank you for your continued support! Hope you're off to a great school year.
This is such an incredible product!! I too believe it is really important that kids are familiar with these roots since I stress the use of context clues big time. I will begin using this with my 7th graders as homework this coming week-a section a night! Since it says "Book 1" I can only hope another book is coming, along with a 7th/8th grade edition of your 5-A-Day Common Core Language Review. Both would be in my cart instantly! Your products are amazing, and I am lucky to be a follower of your work. Thanks as always!
Thank you!!!

What if I only want 8th grade?

Do you think it would be appropriate for me to use this in higher grades if they have not yet had teaching in Greek/Latin Roots? Thanks.
Hello! Yes, you could use this with higher grades. I have 8th-grade teachers that use this. I would download the preview to see if it would be a good fit.
I sent a question a few weeks ago and you responded that the error had been fixed and to download again. I just downloaded the resource again. The error on p. 111 is still there. The directions have "it's" and it should be "its." I don't want to use that page if there's an error.
Hello, Theresa. Sorry about that. The correct file should be there now. Please let me know if there's anything else you need.
Can you take a look at the directions on page 111? It should say "its" not "it's." Thanks.
Hi Theresa! I just checked the most recent file, and it does say, "it's." Please re-download the file for the most up-to-date version.
Hello -
I am looking for something to teach a two week unit on the Latin language. Would this product and the powerpoints work?
Hi Stacy! Thanks for reaching out! This resource includes a year's worth of work on Greek and Latin roots. You can see what is included in the product preview. Each unit is a week's worth of work.
Hi! I have the bundle and love it. My question pertains to the book with the word lists/activities and the sketch notes. I'm having a hard time figuring out how you use them together though. Can you tell me how you'd use them? If I am giving students Unit 1 and plan on quizzing them using the provided test, those 10 words may not appear on the sketch note lists. So would you have them sketch note only the words they'll be tested on? Or are the sketch notes just a way for them to just explore more words with the same root though they may not be tested over those words? Thank you for any advice!
Each unit of the practice printables and the sketch notes pair together. The words available with the sketch notes coordinate with those on the printables. The sketch notes are meant to be used as a note-taking activity. You can have your students use the words and definitions that are included in the Get to the Root of It books.
Does the book include answer key for each lesson?
Yes, answer keys are included.
