Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This HUGE 282-page resource covers over 60 Greek and Latin roots and 200 different words. Created for grades 4-8.
This listing is for the PRINTABLE version only. CLICK HERE for the DIGITAL version.

Hi! So, this resource has single handedly changed our vocabulary instruction. Thank you for creating it!!! In my school, I teach both advanced and inclusion 7th grade classes. We are required to differentiate. I wanted to share with you one way that I am doing that (just in case you wanted to do the rest of the words).
For the advanced class, on the weekly assessment, I am actually adding 5 questions that are in the format of:
Based on the meaning of hydro, what can you infer the meaning of hydrometer might be?
a. an instrument used to measure the density of gasses
b. an instrument used to measure the density of solids
c. an instrument used to measure the density of liquids
d. an instrument used to measure the density of animals
I am using the list of additional words you provided to create these extra questions. It is helping my students to apply the new information in a very realistic way. My students loved this last year.
Thanks!
That is awesome Amy! Thank you so much for sharing!
I am looking for, and wondering if you have any intention of creating, a set of printables that list the root with a related image. For example, a half page printable that says ped and shoes a picture of a shoe? I'd love to have something like this to put up as a word wall. The image makes such a big difference for my students! Thanks!
Hello! I will definitely put that on my to-do list as a free upgrade to the current resource. However, I won't be able to get to this until February or so:-/
Is there an interactive notebook for just book 1?
Hi Tina! No I am sorry, I don't have a separate resource for that.
I was hoping to extract each unit so that I can email one unit at a time to a parent. It says the doc is protected, is there a way for me to remove the protection so that I can do this?
Hi Molly. Please email me at GotToTeach@icloud.com
I purchased this file yesterday. For some reason I can open it, view it, but cannot print. I was trying to have it printed at a copy store. Your interactive notebook printed no problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Please make sure that you are opening and printing the file from the latest version of Adobe Reader. Let me know if that doesn't work.
Hi! Do your books pair directly with your INB for Greek/Latin roots?
Hello! The books are organized in units, with each unit covering three related roots or affixes. The INB contains an activity for evert root (and more) that are in the books. Please let me know if that doesn't answer your question. Melissa
Hi! I have this book but do not have this assessment. Does it have an assessment portion? the one you are selling says it does. I just want to double check before I purchase.
Yes, assessments are included.
Just a question or correction... Unit 2 - 2D Analogies
#2, choice D says "genus:intelligent" did it mean GENIUS?
Also, Unit 2 Test
#7 If you are looking through a vista then... you have D as the correct answer. If you were looking THROUGH a vista wouldn't you have a wide-open view (A)? Just wanted to see if I was understanding this question correctly.
Hi Lisa! That error for Unit 1 (genus) was corrected. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version:-)
Definition of vista: "a pleasing view, especially one seen through a long, narrow opening." a narrow opening would prevent you from getting a "wide-open" view.
This looks amazing and I am very interested in purchasing, however, it only covers a few of the roots that we need to cover for fourth grade in my district. Any chance you take requests and can add to the unit (for a price, of course!).
Hi Holly! There is a Book 2 that covers more roots. Have you seen that? You can get both books here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Root-Words-Bundle-Books-1-2-962135?aref=iz0w4mb2
Unless it is staring me in the face, where do I get to make comments and ratings?
Hello! It should be right under the listing description. Try to refresh your webpage; perhaps it is not loading properly?
