Description

Word analogies are one of the most effective ways to build vocabulary while simultaneously developing critical thinking skills. Unlike vocabulary activities that require students to memorize word definitions, word analogies develop a deep understanding of a word meaning by exploring the relationships between words. When students form logical connections between words, they create a mental network of ideas, which deepens understanding and increases retention. While solving word analogies, students are contextualizing the words as they search for word relationships.

When students work with analogies, they…

•expand and deepen their vocabulary.

•understand the relationships between ideas and words.

•recognize and understand multiple-meaning words.

•think critically and apply logical reasoning.

•learn to decipher word meanings based on context.

•build a network of understanding that improves retention and aids future learning.

4th Grade Daily MATH Spiral Review Morning Work [Editable] Test Prep
Julia J.

Not appropriate for beginning of the year

This is very hard for me to implement until almost the third quarter. Week one has decimals, and my fourth graders don't learn about decimals until the third quarter. It also jumps into division and bigger multiplication early. I wish it had a few weeks of third-grade review.

5th Grade MATH Spiral Review & Weekly Assessments Quizzes [PRINTABLE] Test Prep
Yrady O.

Not a "spiral" review

I wanted to like this so much because it was exactly what I wanted. But, Week 1 already starts talking about coordinate grids and volume, standards that aren't covered until later on in the school year. I wish it was organized by the order the standards are taught throughout the school year instead of introducing end-of-year concepts in the first few weeks.

3rd Grade Grammar Unit: Subject-Verb Agreement

Great Activities, but Limited Direct Instruction

This resource is advertised as a week-long unit, but in practice it functions more like one day of direct instruction followed by several activity days. There is only one PowerPoint for teaching, with the remaining materials focused on practice.

I expected a more balanced structure with instruction and assessment spread across multiple days. For example, I was able to use the PowerPoint and the second day’s worksheet within a single class period, and the “scoot” activity worked well for a separate day. However, I’m unsure how I’ll incorporate the remaining sketch notes, which might have been more effective if directly integrated into the initial instruction.

One major area for improvement is alignment between instruction and assessment. The assessments and task cards include concepts like “to be” verbs and auxiliary verbs, but these are not introduced or modeled in the PowerPoint. This created confusion for my students and could easily be developed into an additional day of instruction.
Overall, the materials are well-designed and engaging, but the unit would benefit from more comprehensive instruction and clearer alignment between teaching and assessment.

The 8th grade version will not allow me to print copies without the answers?

Teacher Thrive

Hello, Jerome. You should be able to select the pages you want to print, rather than printing the entire file.

If you're still experiencing issues, please contact TpT so they can troubleshoot this with you directly. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact

Amy C.

I purchased yesterday and I am having issue locating the google classroom version which has the google forms quiz. The teacher page says that is included.

Teacher Thrive

Hello! They are in the PDF files for each grade level, around page 271.

Chaitanya G.

Hello, One last question. Is this the middle school level? What is the difficulty level? are they useful for standardized tests? when you say 7th, 8, 9th grade does the complexity grow in the list of words you used?

Teacher Thrive

Yes, this would be from middle school to early high school. The words and the relationships presented in the analogies get more challenging at each level. If the standardized test includes vocabulary-specific tasks, then these could be helpful. It just depends on the test.

Chaitanya G.

Hi I am looking for analogies for my child who is preparing for standardized test middle school level that has analogies. Are these useful? how can I practically use them because they seem to be 1000 pages, it will be tough to print/navigate. Do you have a different version? TIA

Teacher Thrive

Hello Chaitanya! Thanks for reaching out. The page count is high because it contains several versions of the same content. The multiple versions allow various levels of support for the students. Once you see the version that best fits your child, you can just print that. I also include Google Form versions if you'd like to avoid printing altogether.

Laura H.

Are any of the analogies in this product copied from your Get to the Root of It-book 1 and book 2 products?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Kim! No, they are all completely different.

Donna H.

Would you consider doing a middle school bundle for grades 6-9? Thank you!
