Greek and Latin roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. These go so well with the interactive notebooks. Great resource :)

I use this resource with my children every day during the week for a quick 10 to 15 min session right after breakfast or in the evening after dinner. We talk about a column of words, for example water words and the root aqua. And then we try to use the Latin it Greek root in a sentence or we try to think of a word we have heard with that root in it. I studied Latin for 2 years in high school and 2 years in college and attic Greek for 2 years in high school and LOVED both languages. This had been a very nice start for elementary level. I love to hear them pick apart big words and decipher their meaning. Thank you!

This is an amazing resource! It is very thorough and well written. I definitely recommend it for anyone teaching Greek and Latin roots.

Students really enjoyed and I also used the sketch notebooks.

Hi, I was wondering how to implement these. We are currently having two roots a week, and the students look up the words. Do you have the students look up the words initially, or do you give them all of the words and definitions together? I am just wondering what best practice would be. I love the resource, and I want to do it right!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Zach,
They shouldn't need to look up the words, as the definitions are provided on the first page of each unit. I recommend using the PowerPoints to intro the words, however.

Victoria D.

Hi there! I teach 7th grade and we have been using your Greek & Latin Roots Books 1 & 2 for 3 years now (starting our 4th year) and love them with great success! With everything going on and the need for digital learning - do you have the word lists in digital format? We did not want to post the word lists in Google Classroom for our students and take a chance of violating the copyright. Thank you for any help and insight you can provide.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Victoria. You are allowed to use these resources with just your students on a private platform like Google Classroom. We did create Google Froms versions of these resources as well.

Will this be optimized for digital learning? I would love to keep using this digitally with my students as we keep social distancing and self isolating.

Is this digital (google slides)? Of course with covid & going to online learning everywhere, I am needing to get my digital resources together and make online lesson plans. I saw there had been a recent update, so that is why I am inquiring.
Thanks!

Edited: I looked at your links. They are totally separate from this resource. I can not afford to buy the same resource twice, just in different forms. Will you offer a lower price for the digital format to customers who have already purchased this bundle?

Teacher Thrive

I have been used Books 1 and 2 over the last few years and it has been very successful. Happy to see the powerpoints you have added.
Question - do you have a digital version that students could complete if distance learning? I am looking to move this online for next year if possible.
