Description

Word analogies are one of the most effective ways to build vocabulary while simultaneously developing critical thinking skills. Unlike vocabulary activities that require students to memorize word definitions, word analogies develop a deep understanding of a word meaning by exploring the relationships between words. When students form logical connections between words, they create a mental network of ideas, which deepens understanding and increases retention. While solving word analogies, students are contextualizing the words as they search for word relationships.

When students work with analogies, they…

•expand and deepen their vocabulary.

•understand the relationships between ideas and words.

•recognize and understand multiple-meaning words.

•think critically and apply logical reasoning.

•learn to decipher word meanings based on context.

•build a network of understanding that improves retention and aids future learning.

Reading Through Middle School

This was a great resource as I could easily have my at home learners in sync with my in person. I printed out the cards for in person learners and the google form was assigned for virtual and we could still go through and discuss each one. Students were able to go ahead at their own pace once they understood how to answer analogies.

Ready 2 Reach

This was a great resource. I taught the concept as a whole and then used the problems as daily bell ringers to take digital attendance.

Are the student printables also available as a digital version as well? I am asking because I would love to use these in small groups for distance learning.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Dave,
They are not readily available digitally, but you are more than welcome to use the printables to create a Google Form. Creating a Google Form this way would not enable the self-grading feature that the quizzes have, but it would enable you to send these digitally.

I just purchased this resource and love what I can see so far. However, I am having the same issue regarding the powerpoint mentioned by Jordan last year. Perhaps, the file can be fixed so buyers do not have to contact TPT. Is there any way of fixing this on your end or does it depend on the device being used by the buyer?

Teacher Thrive

Unfortunately, the issue has nothing to do with the file, so there isn’t anything I can do on my end. You must contact TpT to troubleshoot this.

Jordon Robertson

Love this product! However, I'm unable to download the powerpoint on my MacBook. It says that the file needs to be "repaired". Is there another way you can share the powerpoint with me?
Thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Not to worry. Please contact TpT so they can troubleshoot this with you directly. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact

Kathrin Rogers

I bought the bundle. How do I access the google form versions?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! The links for the google slides are at the end of the pdf file.

Kim G.

What are the differences between grade levels? Do you suggest starting with a grade level below if this is new to the students?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Kim! It really depends on your students. You should be fine using your grade level, since there 3 different versions that provide scaffolded support.
