Description

Word analogies are one of the most effective ways to build vocabulary while simultaneously developing critical thinking skills. Unlike vocabulary activities that require students to memorize word definitions, word analogies develop a deep understanding of a word meaning by exploring the relationships between words. When students form logical connections between words, they create a mental network of ideas, which deepens understanding and increases retention. While solving word analogies, students are contextualizing the words as they search for word relationships.

When students work with analogies, they…

•expand and deepen their vocabulary.

•understand the relationships between ideas and words.

•recognize and understand multiple-meaning words.

•think critically and apply logical reasoning.

•learn to decipher word meanings based on context.

•build a network of understanding that improves retention and aids future learning.

Thank you so much for all your hard work. This made my life as a teacher easier! It was very well organized and easy to implement.

I really appreciate that there are differentiated versions of the worksheets, so students can work in the same class on the same content but those who require the bridge sentences provided for additional support can utilize this feature.

Great

Teachers in my school have used this in 6th and 7th grades, so it was easy to review with them. The vocabulary builds with each level. I like how there are different options. I could easily create a more challenging assignment for my Pre-AP class.

Hi I use your analogy sets for 6-8 (and I added 3rd grade for differentiation purposes. The sets look similar so no student feels different!). A big thanks for all of your hard work.

I have one quick question...In the 7th grade, when you give homophones, both the guide pair and the answer pair are homophones. In the 8th grade set, you have the guide pair as homophones, but the answer pair as part of speech. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi, the powerpoint is not running properly on my Mac or iPad. I can only see all the slides and content in Google slides, but that will not let me play the show. Please advise.
Thanks!
