Description
I made these reading comprehension strategy cards based on my all-time favorite professional development book; Strategies that Work, by Harvey and Goudvis. These cards can be used in multiple settings (e.g., Guided Reading, Shared Reading, etc.) and with any level text. I print them on colored card stock, laminate, and the kids use post-its on them. However, they can also be printed on plain paper and used as traditional graphic organizer.
There is one card for each strategy:
-Determining Importance,
-Making Connections
-Visualizing
-Synthesizing
-Inferring*
-Asking Questions*
* Inferring and Asking Questions cards have two unique sides. The other cards are meant to have two identical sides.
6 reading strategy posters have been added 2/22/16.

Some helpful parts but room for improvement.
This resource was fine. It wasn't particularly engaging.
Clever Visual Approach, But Not My Favorite
The sketch-note style brings a creative visual twist to prefixes and suffixes, which I can appreciate in theory. However, the doodle-heavy format isn’t quite my cup of tea. The content seems well-designed and could work well for visual learners, but personally, it didn't click with me.
Creative Concept, Just Not My Jam
The visual layout and doodle-style sketch notes are undeniably creative and well-executed, but the heavily visual format still didn’t resonate with my preferences. I appreciate the effort behind it and can see how it might engage visual learners, yet, personally, it didn’t click for me.
Creative Concept, But Not Quite for Me
The sketch notes are a creative approach and seem to work well for visual learners, but the doodle-heavy format just isn’t my style. The content is solid, and I can see the appeal for some classrooms, but overall it didn’t really win me over.
Would recommend for 6th grade
I purchased this as 5th grade homework/morning work, however even the first few weeks cover things like exponents, multiplying and dividing decimals, etc. that we will not get to until later in the year. I think it would work well for 6th grade as it reviews 5th material.
<p>Hello, Andrea! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. </p><p>This resource is not designed around a particular scope and sequence since many teachers follow different timelines.</p><p>Since Daily Spiral Reviews cover all standards, students are exposed to concepts they may not have had formal instruction on. Unfamiliar content presents a great opportunity for you to build background knowledge and assess where your students are before you even teach a specific lesson.</p><p>The best way to use this spiral review is to begin with whole-group lessons where you model and discuss each activity. I don't worry too much if there haven't been formal lessons on a particular concept; I treat those items more as a preview. After a few weeks, the students really start grasping the format, and you can begin to transfer the workload to them. Eventually, when the students work independently on the review, you will spend time correcting and discussing their work in class. </p><p>As mentioned above, students will encounter concepts they are unfamiliar with. This is a GOOD thing, I promise! We don't always have the answers or know the procedures to solve problems. It's healthy to expose students to "unknowns"; they become less sensitive to the uncomfortable feeling of "not knowing" and are less likely to panic.</p><p>However, you can always use the editable version (open in PowerPoint) to remove/change any review items you like. Thanks for reaching out! </p>

I accidentally purchased this when I had already purchased it on 9/28/21. Is there any way I could get a credit to use with you? I love your products.
Thanks for reaching out! Yes, please contact TpT directly at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact, and they will help you with refunding your duplicate order.
Hi, I just purchased this product. It is exactly what I am looking for. Is there a way to print 4 posters on one page? I would like to print mini posters instead of the large formatted ones.
The only way you would be able to print them onto one page would be to go to the print preview and change the page sizing and handling. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an editable version of this resource because it was created using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Also, we are prohibited from providing editable versions of resources that contain commercial graphics.
Love these! Are these editable so that they can be updated for the 3rd edition of Strategies that Work? ~Synthesize/Summarize
Thanks so much for this awesome resource!
Unfortunately, I am unable to provide an editable version of this resource because I created it using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
For the “Interactive Reading Strategy Cards” can you add/make a poster for summarize?
I don't have a set for summarizing, but I will consider your suggestion if I update the resource.
Do you have these listed for grades K-2?
Thanks!
Hi Michelle! Thank you for your interest. I don’t have a version for k-2.
Hello, thank you so much for this great resource. Is there a possibility of sharing the word document of these documents with me as my school is going paperless and we can only use google classroom? If possible I truly appreciate your help
Hello! Unfortunately, this resource was created in Adobe Illustrator, so I am unable to provide an editable version.
Do you have a poster for Main Idea and Supporting Details?
Hello! No this resource is based only on the 6 strategies listed.
I was interested in whether you could make a couple of additional cards with the Australian/UK spelling of Visualising and Synthesising, please? I am very keen to share the link to your work with my pre-service teachers over here in Aust. Many thanks, Kylie
Hello! Thank you so much for your interest. At this time I am unable to offer a version with UK spelling.
Hello, I was just wondering if you have the template or if you can make a "prediction" card. I feel like it's an important strategy and I would really love to have one, even if it's just the card. I can pay extra for it too. Thank you!
Hello! Unfortunately, I do not have such a template. I will keep your suggestion in mind for a possible update in the future.
Am i able to purchase just the cards and not the posters?
Hello! Thanks for asking. They are not sold separately.
