Description
WHY GREEK AND LATIN ROOTS?
Almost 70 percent of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek roots and affixes. When we teach students these “building blocks,” they can recognize and decode unfamiliar words related to a known prefix or suffix. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of these word parts as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
WHY SKETCH NOTES
Sketch notes present your students with a meaningful and engaging activity that they will love. Doodle notetaking activates verbal and visual modalities to capture concepts. The whole brain is absorbed in hearing, synthesizing, and retaining ideas. This high level of engagement helps with the retention of the content and leaves little room for distraction.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
These affixes are organized in 25 units (2-4 affixes per unit); these units correspond to the units in All About Affixes Practice Printables. You do not need to have the Practice Printables to use these sketch notes, but if you are looking for more structured word work for your students, you can learn more about it HERE.
