Greek and Latin Roots Sketch Notes [Book 2] – A Fun and Effective Way to Build Vocabulary!

Are you looking for an engaging way to teach Greek and Latin roots? This Greek and Latin Roots Sketch Notes [Book 2] resource provides a creative and interactive approach to vocabulary instruction. With 120 pages of unique, hand-drawn doodle-style sketch notes, your students will develop a deeper understanding of word roots while strengthening their comprehension, spelling, and decoding skills.

Why Teach Greek and Latin Roots?

Did you know that nearly 70% of English words come from Greek and Latin? Understanding these roots helps students decode unfamiliar words, improve reading comprehension, and expand their vocabulary. This skill is particularly valuable in content areas like science, math, and social studies, where technical vocabulary often relies on Greek and Latin origins.

By explicitly teaching root words, prefixes, and suffixes, you provide students with the tools they need to break down complex words, making reading and writing easier and more meaningful.

What Are Sketch Notes?

Sketch notes combine words and visuals to increase retention and comprehension. These structured doodle pages allow students to:
✅ Visually represent word meanings
✅ Strengthen memory by activating both verbal and visual learning modalities
✅ Reduce distractions and improve focus
✅ Take ownership of their learning in a fun and creative way

Research shows that doodle-style note-taking improves retention because it engages both sides of the brain. Students will actively process information while enjoying the artistic aspect of the activity.

Faith In Teaching

Hi! I am assuming that these are different roots than Book 1, correct? I just want to make sure this isn't updated book 1. Thank you!

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Yes, these roots are completely different than book 1.

Natalie E.

Do you have any plans to add a PowerPoint/Google slides to this, similar to your maths product?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Natalie,

Because students choose the three words to use for each page, it's too open-ended to create answer keys and/or powerpoints for the notes.

Mckala B.

Do all of the sheets come with a "key" where the meaning and the doodle are already filled out?

Teacher Thrive

Hello, McKala.

No, the sheets do not come with completed examples since students pick their three words for each sheet.

Mailine Y.

Hi, I haven't started using your resources yet- but I already love them. Do you think you are going to create a 3rd book? If not, is there a template or something similar that I could use to make up for the roots that are not listed? I'm looking for the root auto

Teacher Thrive

Hi There! I do have a blank PDF template that I can email you if you email me at info@teacherthrive.com

The Dusty Bookshelf

Hi, I’m specifically starting with your unit 12 to cover the Greek and Latin number prefixes. Which sketch notes books go with units 12-15? Thanks

Teacher Thrive

Hello! You can find those in Book 1: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Roots-Sketch-Notes-Book-1-3273969

Are the digital google form quizzes for Books 1 & 2 included in this bundle?

Jaime Guidry

We do not have digital versions of the Sketch Notes. The sketch notes are designed to be used as a printable resource. Doodle notetaking activates verbal and visual modalities to capture concepts. The whole brain is absorbed in hearing, synthesizing, and retaining ideas.

Sightseeing Scooter

I purchased these a while back and I’m wondering if you have the digital version for distance learning.

Susan Deasy

Hi there,

First of all - I LOVE these! They are so cute and really engaging! I'm a science teacher and I have some prefixes that are specific to my content that aren't in here. If I gave you a list, would you be willing to create sheets for them? It would be 71 terms, so if you're willing name your price! I have created a powerpoint with the terms, definition, example words containing them, and images. But they're nowhere near as cute as your pages! I could send those to you if it would help in the creation of the pages.

Thanks for your consideration!
Suzy

Teacher Thrive

Hi Suzy,

We don’t have plans for create another book in the near future, but your are free to email us any suggestions. Info@teacherthrive.com

Missyteacher

Do you have a page for port or sect?

Teacher Thrive

Hello. Sorry for the delay. This resource only includes the stems listed on the preview file.

Megan Escobar

Is there anyway you can include the colored versions you already have? I'd love to use this digitally with my scholars just as a quick bell ringer for science and the colored versions add a great pop to get them interested!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Megan. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I am unable to add the color versions to the file. I only have a handful of them colored (the 10 on the cover). I’d be happy to email those to you. Please email me with your Order ID number at info@teacherthrive.com
