Description
Greek and Latin Roots PowerPoints! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
Now you can easily present these essential components of English with these engaging and visually stunning PowerPoint presentations!
What’s included in this resource?
This resource is an extensive collection of 20 different PowerPoint presentations, each one covering three different roots. Each presentation includes ten high-utility words, one word per slide. Each slide includes a clear, concise definition, the word used in context, and a carefully selected image that will further emphasize the meaning and application of the word. I love this resource and all of the activities to engage them at different levels of mastery.
I used these in my classroom last year and saw tremendous growth in my students and their understanding of Greek and Latin roots! Love this resource!
This is an excellent resource!! So thorough and well thought out - thank you!
My students used this resource with their ELA Word Study. The presentations are easy to post in Google Classroom. They offer visual and linguistic support for Greek & Latin Roots practice pages.
I'm a firm believer in teaching Greek/Latin Roots. I purchased all of your Book 1 products before I realized that you had these slides. These slides are PERFECT to teach from! A must-have if you've purchased any of the Book 1 items!

I used the product for the first time today, and kids loved it. I can tell you put a ton of time into this. I wanted to mention that in Lesson 3, there is a typo on one slide. "Anthropology" is missing an "o." Thanks again for an excellent product.
Oh no! Thanks so much! I'll have it fixed tonight and reposted.
Okay, so I have been trying to upload the revised file for 2 hours now! I'm on vacation with the SLOWEST wifi EVER!!! I might not be able to upload the revisions until Thursday when I get home. I am so sorry!
UPDATE: I think I was able to update it! Let me know if the corrected version is not up. Thanks!
You mention that each PowerPoint covers 3 root words. Is there a word/picture/definition for EACH word in EACH of the lessons? I am very interested in getting these but wanted to clarify this point before purchasing the PowerPoints. Thank you for putting this together.
Hi Kevin,
Each word from each lesson (a total of 200 words) has it's very own slide. On the slide there is a definition, a sentence, and a picture that relates to the word. You can download the preview to see what the complete PowerPoint for Unit 1 looks like. Let me know if it's still unclear.
Thanks for your interest!
Melissa
