Description

Greek and Latin Roots PowerPoints! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.

Now you can easily present these essential components of English with these engaging and visually stunning PowerPoint presentations!

What’s included in this resource?

This resource is an extensive collection of 20 different PowerPoint presentations, each one covering three different roots. Each presentation includes ten high-utility words, one word per slide. Each slide includes a clear, concise definition, the word used in context, and a carefully selected image that will further emphasize the meaning and application of the word. Download the preview for a complete look at the Unit 1 PowerPoint.

These PowerPoints are an effective stand-alone resource for your classroom. However, if you are looking to extend and deepen your students’ vocabulary skills, then check out my Get to the Root of It: Book 1. The units from this book are perfectly aligned with the PowerPoints within this resource.

I'm a firm believer in teaching Greek/Latin Roots. I purchased all of your Book 1 products before I realized that you had these slides. These slides are PERFECT to teach from! A must-have if you've purchased any of the Book 1 items!

Wendi K.

This is such a time saver and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

Nicolle M.

I used this resource to teach greek and latin roots and affixes.

Gina Vestuti

Very engaging and a great addition to ELA block to supplement district required ELA curriculum

I have purchased many, many units from TPT and most are somewhat useful. I have never been so impressed with a unit to take the time to write a review. This unit is excellent. I have no need to adapt it or add to it. It is a great warm-up for 8th grade ELA just as it is. It actually requires students to THINK!

Is there a slide that defines the Greek or Latin roots? Or are the slides only defining the words in the unit?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Yes, the first slide defines the roots:-)

Nicole C.

My students and I love these PowerPoints! They truly help the visual learners. We have noticed a few errors...grammatical or spelling. Could you please enable editing or fix those in an update?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Nicole! These PowerPoints are now editable. You can redownlaod them under "my purchases." If you have a moment, I would love if you could email me the errors so that I can fix them as well. GotToTeach@icloud.com

Yesterday I purchased this download for $12 and when I tried to download, it failed. Today when I was trying to redownload it, it did not recognize that I had purchased it yesterday. Please help. Thank you.

Teacher Thrive

Oh no! Please contact TpT. They will get this figured out in no time.

Candice Godfrey

Do these slides go with the Greek and Latin Roots Interactive Notebook pack?

Teacher Thrive

These go with the Get to the Root of it Book 1 which can be found here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Root-Words-Book-1-882185

However, every root from these slides (and many more) are covered in the Interactive Notebook.

I can't get the powerpoint to open. It says I need a password.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Renee. The files are Read Only, but you should be able to open and show them. Does it give you an option to "read only" viewing when opening?

kathy O.

First of all, thank you for all of your amazing work!! I have purchased other Greek and Latin Roots products over the years, but this will be my final one. I bought the book, the powerpoint and the interactive notebook. Yours is the most comprehensive, practical, and memorable!
My question is this: I purchased the powerpoint for myself and then purchased two more licenses for colleagues. We are not able to open the powerpoint without first going into my account and downloading from there because we are unable to save the presentation. I asked our tech person to help but she didn't know how to solve the problem either.
Are we doing something wrong? When we try to save it takes us to a read only version and then we need a password to save it.
Any suggestions?
Again, thank you for this.

Teacher Thrive

Hi there! Thanks for the kind words!

The presentations are password protected, but you should be able to transfer them to another computer via usb drive. Have you tried transferring them to your colleagues' computers via a usb drive?

Sorry for the hassle. We will get this figured out!

Hi, I just purchased the Greek and Latin Roots Powerpoint for Book 1 but I cannot open the PPTs. A message appears that says "This presentation is protected by a password or Digital Rights Management. To access the presentation, you must have a version that is not protected by a password or DRM." I understand that you have protected the images in the PPT but I am not sure how to view the PPT. I am using a Mac if that makes a difference. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. I LOVE your products and very much want to use this with the G & L Roots Book 1. Thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Hi there! The PPTs should allow you to view as "Read Only." Are you seeing an option for that? Also what version of PPT are you using?

Carrie R.

Our class is working on Unit 15 this week. The kids caught something I didn't. The PPT has centurion and the correct definition. Yet, in the activities, the definition refers to a person that is 100 years old as a centurion. Wouldn't that be a centenarian? The activities refers to a person over 100, but the test and PPT refer to a Roman soldier. Please confirm and upgrade. Thank you.

Teacher Thrive

I did change the student pages to match the PowerPoint. Have you downloaded an updated version recently? I changed the student pages when I uploaded the PowerPoint.

Shannon G.

Any news on the voice over? Is it possible!?

Teacher Thrive

Hi there!

It is possible, but I just have been so busy and unable to get to it. I am finishing up a project, and should be able to get to complete it by the end of the month. Sorry for the delay.

Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: 10/28- I just bought a fancy headset to add the "perfect" voice over, completed half of Book 1, only to realize that the added audio makes the files way too large to upload to TpT. BOO! I am SO sorry!! Can you please email me? I hope you see this!

Shannon G.

IDEA: add a voice over to the slides so that a voice reads the word and sentence! This can easily be done in powerpoint (I'd do it myself if it was editable) THIS simple addition would allow this product to be used as a stand alone center for upper grades word work!? PLEASE!!!!

Teacher Thrive

Let me look into this! I have to see how much bigger that would make the files, since I can only upload 200 gb at a time. I'll keep you posted. That IS an awesome idea!!!!
