Description

Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.

This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

UPDATE: After many requests, this resource now includes EVERY root (and more) from my Get to the Root of It Books!

I really love this resource. I have used it for my word work this year in the students' interactive notebooks. I also use your "Get to the Root of It!" for the vocab practice. I am trying to mesh the two resources together. I use "Get to the Root" for the weekly word list and use the pictures in their notebooks for them to learn and study the words. I would love to see more root pictures and lists in this book that match the units in "Get to the Root". I have spent extra time doing some cutting and pasting to have the words match the units in the other book. I have also purchased the power points and that has really made a difference for my visual learners.

The kids love the artwork and the meanings of the roots really stick with them more since they have a picture to go with it. Your work is quality stuff and I really appreciate having it as a resource in my classroom!

I am in the process of adding INB activities for every root in my Get to the Root of It books! The resource should be completed by the end of June 2015

UPDATE: All roots from both of my Get to the Root of It Books are now included in this resource!

This is my first purchase from "Got To Teach" and it will definitely not be my last. I love the marriage of art with the 'thinking' involved with this product; I thought I'd start out giving them the activity with words, then slowly move towards the page without the words. We have already begun root words, but I had to get this for the artwork, which I think will definitely help with learning and remembering the root words. Thank you.

An excellent word attack strategy as well as a vocabulary development!

Your product makes teaching the Greek and Latin roots so much easier for my 5th graders. Thanks for the amazing product!

Are you, by chance, taking suggestions for your future additions? I will definitely be purchasing this to use to supplement my current vocab program. However, there are only 10-15 that present that match up to my grade level. I will be purchasing regardless. Thanks for your consideration! :)

Thank you so very much for your quick response and willingness to try and fit my requests in as time allows. I'm headed over to my email now to check in with you.

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I am definitely open to adding more roots in the future. However, I really don't know when I will start adding more after I finish the addition I am currently working on. I have spent the last two months (every day, all day:-) adding over 80 new roots, and I am ready to switch gears for a bit and start some new projects for the fall:-). If you email me what roots you need, I will definitely make note of them and add as many as possible in late fall/early winter. I would love to hear from you! GotToTeach@icloud.com Thank you so much for your interest! Melissa

This looks great and exactly what I was looking for. However can you clarify if it needs to be printed out (302) pages or if it is simply viewable online with answers simply written by the student on paper.

Teacher Thrive

Hello. The 302 page count included step-by-step assembly instructions (1 page for each root) as well as word lists and definitions (1 page for each root). You can print out the whole resource if you like. Hope that answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarification.

Tristine W.

Do you include any type of assessment with these - or do you assess you kids with this program?

Teacher Thrive

Hello. This resource does not come with assessments. However I do have a Greek and Latin resource that does come with assessments. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Root-Words-Bundle-Books-1-2-962135

This is not so much a question, as a thank you. Just read about the new additions coming up, and wanted to take the time to thank you. I'm one of the fortunate ones to have already bought this wonderful resource, so I am just thrilled. My students really enjoy learning about root words (as do I) and the updates you will be adding will create an amazing bundle of powerpoints and interactive notebook resources. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Teacher Thrive

You are SO welcome, Michelle! The first updates will be added in about a week, with much more to come through the next few months! Thanks for taking the time to share your appreciation. You made my day.

I just love your products! They are so well-thought out and your instructions are explicit enough that a novice couldn't go wrong. I am so incredibly impressed by your consistent quality. Surely, you must know you have a gift and a talent. Thank you for your hard work because it makes me look sooo good as a teacher!

Now, for my question. I was so excited to see you were having a sale on Pi Day. So, I waited to buy your products, but when I checked out, I didn't get the 20% off. Was there something I was supposed to do? I was going to get the second set of your Math Tasks, but was afraid to do so in case I was mistaken on the sale. I kind of wonder if it was because I live on the west coast and perhaps the time expired?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Not that I begrudge you the 20%, just that I've bought a ton of stuff since I just moved to 6th grade after teaching 2nd grade for years. Ehhhh, you know how it is as teacher. :)

Thanks again! I simply love your high quality products!

Teacher Thrive

Wow!! Jade, thank for the very kind words!!! I am smiling ear to ear. As far as the sale, I think TpT goes by EST so the sale that I scheduled for Pi Day probably expired at 9 pm PST. I don't know how to get around this for you. Perhaps if you contacted TpT and asked them there might be away for them to extend the 20% off to you. If not could you email me with what you are interested in purchasing? GotToTeach @ iCloud . Com

Teaching to Engage

Are these the same words as in your Root Words (Book 1) resource? Thanks, Alley

Teacher Thrive

All roots from both of my Get to the Root of It Books are now included in this resource!

The Science Penguin

I'm not teaching so I don't need this, but it's a very smart product. Good luck with it! :)

Teacher Thrive

Thanks!!!! That means a lot coming from you:-)
