Description

Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.

This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

Miss Czeski's Class

This is an amazing resource!! It has SO many root words and the students really enjoy creating the interactive notebook pieces to study the Latin/Greek roots!

Middle Mania Swag

These were the perfect addition to my word routine!

Amy H.

My students enjoyed showing what they know with this resource! They were engaged in the resource.

Christine L.

My students love this interactive activity. They used this as bell work, looking up the definitions and drawing a picture helps provide visual cues to help remember the definitions.

Kendra R.

This is a great resource to help my students study. Thank you.

I teach 4th grade and I used this resource last year and loved it! However, we have all new required to teach curriculum this year and there is no way I can get to all the notebook or even half if I'm being realistic. Which roots should be taught first? Can you recommend which roots to introduce or a source I can use to help guide me on which roots to choose?
Thanks for creating a great resource!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Denice! I would start with the most commonly used roots and work your way down. I have a flip-book that lists the roots in order of utility. I'd be happy to send it to you. Just email at GotToTeach@icloud.com

Kelli C.

Does the download happen to come with pages that are colored already? (That would be awesome!)

Teacher Thrive

It comes with pictures of completed and colored pages that have been assembled. But all the pages that are to be printed for student use are black and white.

Deborah H.

Is there a quiz pack that coordinates with this set?

Teacher Thrive

No, but there are assessments in this resource (link below) that support the activities in this Interactive Notebook.

Tami B.

Hi there :) I love this resource, but before I purchase I was just wondering if you could tell me how you incorporate this into your curriculum. I teach 12th grade repeaters and I think this would be very helpful, but it seems time consuming. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to implement this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Hello Tami! INBs can be slightly more time-consuming than worksheets, etc. You could always cover just one root a week, if time is an issue. I'd be happy to send you a sample if you'd like to try it out with your class. Email me at GotToTeach@icloud.com

Erin J.

Hi! Your resource looks fabulous. I have two questions: when you create new roots, will they be added to this resource or be made as part of a separate purchase? Secondly, can you add bibl / biblos (book)? Thank you!!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Erin! Any new roots will be added to this resource and not part of a new resource:-). I will add your request to my list. Thanks!

Pages.Pens.Ideas

Hi! I purchased this fabulous product last year and love it. However, was wondering looking at my curriculum and noticed you didn't have the roots: voc/voke/vok, tele, and therm. Any plans to add these?

Teacher Thrive

Hi there! I do plan on adding more roots to this resource after the first of the year. I have added these roots to my list. Thanks!

Rebecca S.

Hey Got to Teach,
Do these correspond with your Book 1 and Book 2 roots downloads? I used those last year and loved them, and would love to incorporate these interactive pages if they correspond.

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Yes, every root (and more) from Books 1 and 2 and included in this resource.

Katie J.

Does this file include activities, or is it simply cut, paste and introduce the roots into a notebook? I saw your website had activities for teaching roots.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Katie. This resource is for finding and recording the various words that related to 100s of different roots. If you are looking for more activities, you may want to check out this resource. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Root-Words-Bundle-Books-1-2-962135

Nicky Lott

Do you have words included with all the roots for students to look up and define?

Teacher Thrive

Yes, words are included. Blank templates are also provided so that you can choose your own words.

Julio Cesar de Campos Rodrigues

Hi, Melissa!
How are you?
I hope everything is fine...

I teach Brazilian Portuguese at a public school in the countryside of Sao Paulo State. I want to know if it is possible to edit some parts of this product when it comes to the example words.

Example: phob - Greek - "fear" (in Brazilian Portuguese is fob - Grego - "medo").

Is it possible? Do you have any ideas on how I can use it? What kind of file is it? For example, if it is a Power Point (or editable PDF), can I add text boxes with our mother language on it?

Thanks for your attention! This product and Get to the Root of It Books are AMAZING. Keep on doing the good work!

Warm regards,

Teacher Julio!

:)

Teacher Thrive

Hi Julio! Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately this file is not editable so you won't be able to adapt this for your language of instruction.
