Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

A great way to teach spelling and challenge my students!
I can't wait to start using this. I love the pictures that go along with them. As well as the blank templates to give the students a chance to come up with their own. Thanks!
I love your products! I can't wait for the next product like this for the rest of the roots I need to teach!
I like the creativity and visuals to assist my students in recognizing and working with word roots.
My students love using these to take notes each week, thank you!

I have this, and it's a great resource. However it takes a really long time to do with my 8TH GRADERS! I'm wondering if this could go digital! I would cut down on the time - while I know there's value in the process - can't justify the amount of instructional time being taken away.
Hi Lena! I will definitely consider creating a digital resource for roots in the future. Thank you for getting in touch with me.
I already bought your Greek and Latin Roots, and your 6th grade 5-A-Day. Is there a way that I can exchange for the Greek and Latin Roots Interactive Notebook because my students and myself are not that artistic?
Hi Ann, Unfortunately, since these are downloadable resources, they are nonrefundable.
I am considering getting a spiral of heavier weight paper to hold up better to glueing and use. How many pages should it have to hold the whole project? 120? One for each activity or do some take a spread (more than one page to attach)?. TIA
Hello! Yes, each page uses one notebook page. However, some of the notebooks will get pretty full once you add the foldable elements.
Do you think this might work for younger students? I mean, developmentally, do you know if there's anything that could prevent a 2nd or 3rd grader from parsing out the parts of words like this, or is it just something that's usually taught later? In our homeschool we are about to study ancient Greece and Rome and I thought this might be a good time to start learning about how much of our language derives from Greek and Latin. It was something I was going to save for later, but when I saw your notebook this just looks so fun, and we would just start now, maybe doing a few roots per week (or maybe just one root, and several vocabulary words using that root).
I think some of the more common roots could work for them. If you browse through the table of contents (in the preview) and see a couple of roots you'd like to test out with them, I'd be happy to send you those to try for free. Email me at GotToTeach@icloud.com
Not sure if this is the spot to inform you of how much I would love to have this product. I noticed on Facebook that I need to let you know I'm interested.
Hi Rosy! You can just leave a comment with the link to the product you would like on the Facebook post and I will enter you.
I'm working ahead on a sample notebook and noticed that the root "terr" is used in the power points and daily work, but there is no graphic for it in the notebook. Is this available elsewhere? Thank you.
Hi Tina! It is actually paired with "geo" on page 206 of the INB.
Do you have a set of quizzes to go with this?
Hi Kristen! These do not have quizzes. However, by Get to the Root of It books do. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Root-Words-Bundle-Books-1-2-962135
Hi - I love this book - it is wonderful! Quick question - on page 559 the fill in page has the word contend, but on page 561, with the definitions, it lists content but not contend. Will this be changed in a future update?
Thank you for all your hard work. These are wonderful!
Hello! I will correct this and upload a revised file tomorrow morning. Thank you!
Hi there,
I love this product. The kids are learning so much! Thank you. We found a couple mistakes. Would it be possible to have you change the original to be downloaded again? The first is with the Latin root "leg." On the glossary, it says leg means legal but on the sheet to cut out, it says law. The other one is the word maneuver. It is spelled incorrectly. Again, we are loving this bundle. Thank you for creating it!
Hi Erin! Thanks for letting me know. I will correct these ASAP.
Hi!
As I was doing this with my kids, I noticed an error with mem. On the notebook page, it says memorialize; however, on the definition page, it says memorize (or visa versa).
Just wanted to let you know!
Thank you, Kelley! I will correct this today!
