Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

Thanks!
Excellent, well organized resource!
You and your products never cease to amaze me! I can't wait to have my students create a classroom Interactive Notebook for them to use as a reference during the year. Thanks so much for this awesome product!

Do you have a list of all the roots that are included?
Hi Erica! Yes, if you download the preview, the table of contents lists all of the roots.
I can see your images showing how everything glues in. I'd like to see an example of the activities you say are included.
Hello! I am not sure what you are asking? Do want to see a sample of an activity?
Can this be done without much teacher instruction by 5th graders during independent work time?
Hi Maren! I honestly don't think this would be great for independent work unless students had access to the assembly pages. You might want to check out my Doodle Notes, though. They are perfect for independent work: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Greek-and-Latin-Roots-Doodle-Notes-Sketch-Notes-Book-1-3273969
Does this interactive notebook correlate with your "Get to the Root of It" Book 1 and 2 word lists? I wanted to use them together and was wondering if all of the roots and word lists in those resources are included in this notebook.
Hello! Yes, all of the roots (and several more) from Books 1 and 2 have an INB activity.
Do these correspond to your 5 a day language review resource for 7th or 8th grade?
The language reviews also contain affixes, while this is mostly roots.
What type of notebook would you recommend to best implement this activity?
Are the pages sized for a spiral notebook or only for a composition notebook?
Hello! These activities will fit in either size notebook. I recommend composition notebooks since they are more durable.
Purchased but am unable to print the images for number 1 and number 2. Other pages before and after are printing fine, but whenever I try to print it the computer fails to recognize those pages. Was planning to start this with the numbers section for my children this summer.
Hello! Please make sure you are opening and printing the file from the latest version of Adobe Reader. If that doesn't work, contact tpt, and they will get it figured out. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact
I may just be a little confused, but does this go with the "Get to the Root of It" handouts?
Hi Elizabeth!!! Yes, there is a INB activity for each root included in the Get to the Root of It printables.
Hi there :) I love this resource, but before I purchase I was just wondering if you could tell me how you incorporate this into your curriculum. I teach sixth graders, and I think this would be very helpful, but it seems time consuming. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to implement this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Oh, by the way, the students love your Sixth Grade 5-A-Day Language review. It is very challenging for the students but
Hi Ann, If you are new to INBs it can take a bit of time at first. Eventually, your students will get more efficient, and it will take less time. I recommend doing 1-2 roots a week. I would be happy to send you a sample to try out. Please email me at GotToTeach@icloud.com
I have a student that is severely dyslexic with long term memory issues (orthographic), he loves and recognizes pictures I am wondering if you feel that this would be a good resource to help visualize the word and access the long term memory. Also he reads at first grade level but in the 4th grade and noticed that someone had asked about grade level specific info. Did the resource work for them? Thank you!
Hi Stephanie! I'd be happy to send you a few roots to try with your student. Please email 2-3 roots (you can see a list in the preview), and I'll send them over. GotToTeach@icloud.com
