Description

Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.

This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

I really love this resource. I have used it for my word work this year in the students' interactive notebooks. I also use your "Get to the Root of It!" for the vocab practice. I am trying to mesh the two resources together. I use "Get to the Root" for the weekly word list and use the pictures in their notebooks for them to learn and study the words. I would love to see more root pictures and lists in this book that match the units in "Get to the Root". I have spent extra time doing some cutting and pasting to have the words match the units in the other book. I have also purchased the power points and that has really made a difference for my visual learners.

The kids love the artwork and the meanings of the roots really stick with them more since they have a picture to go with it. Your work is quality stuff and I really appreciate having it as a resource in my classroom!

I am in the process of adding INB activities for every root in my Get to the Root of It books! The resource should be completed by the end of June 2015

UPDATE: All roots from both of my Get to the Root of It Books are now included in this resource!

This is my first purchase from "Got To Teach" and it will definitely not be my last. I love the marriage of art with the 'thinking' involved with this product; I thought I'd start out giving them the activity with words, then slowly move towards the page without the words. We have already begun root words, but I had to get this for the artwork, which I think will definitely help with learning and remembering the root words. Thank you.

An excellent word attack strategy as well as a vocabulary development!

Your product makes teaching the Greek and Latin roots so much easier for my 5th graders. Thanks for the amazing product!

I love this! I only teach Latin though, is there a separate buy for only Latin?
Thanks!!

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I don’t have the Latin activities available separately.

I teach 4th grade and know I can't get through all of these in a year...do you have a list of recommended roots for each grade level?

Teacher Thrive

You most likely won’t be able to get through this in a year—it’s huge! I have a free flip book (link below) that has the most commonly used roots. I’d start with those. https://teacherthrive.com/2015/12/free-vocabulary-builder-flip-book.html

Hello!
I purchased Get to the Root of It Book 1 and I was wondering if the materials for the interactive notebook align with the roots that are included in book 1 of Get to the Root of It? I wanted to double check before I purchase this. Thank you!!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Danielle, All of the roots in Get to the Root of it Books have an activity in the interactive notebook. There actually many more roots in the interactive notebook that are not included in the Get to the Root of It Books.

Stephanie J.

This notebook is perfect and covers so many Greek and Latin roots that I want to cover with my 5th graders. Do you have word lists and assessments or quizzes that go along with these specific units? For example, a complete word list for words containing ‘ped’ and a quiz to go with. This is a great resource!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Stephanie! I do have this resource that includes assessments. You can download the preview to see what roots are covered. Every root in these books has an activity in the Interactive Notebook resource.

Christina S.

Do you have a version of this that can be used in Google Classroom?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I do not have a digital version of this resource. Thanks for asking!

Elizabeth C.

Hi, I meant in the notebook, not the free week. I have to teach the following: fact, mega, min, cap, cred, demo, fort, ped, pod, vac, dict, photo, infra, struct, script, manu, aqua, phono, tact, vert, anthro, corp, flect, fract, gram, mort, path, pos, trans, scend, ject, reg, graph, astro, dur, nom, gener, port, mal, retro. Are these included?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Elizabeth. Please download the preview file to see a full list of the roots covered in the Interactive Notebook.

Hi. I really like the G/L Interactive Handouts. I have two now that would not print. I had the school's tech person look at the two pages, but she could not figure out why they would not print. Can I get the page(s) that won't print?

Teacher Thrive

Not to worry. Please contact TpT so they can troubleshoot this with you directly. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact

Megan A.

Do you have any materials like this interactive notebook for the prefixes auto- and tele- ?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Megan,

I do not have INB activities for those morphemes.

Melissa V.

Are you going to do these with the Option 1 (hand out) and Option 2 like your Language Interactive Notebook?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Melissa! This resource only comes in the traditional INB format.

Yvette G.

Hi,
I noticed that the roots are the same as your G&L roots curriculum and PPT, but some words are different in the interactive notebook. I was hoping to use the three products together. (such as word for mar)

Teacher Thrive

Hi Yvette! While the roots match up, I did use some different words to add variety. However, there are also blank Interactive Notebook pages so you can still use which ever words you like.
