Description
Greek and Latin Roots! Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas.
This resource combines the instructional value of Greek and Latin roots with the active engagement of Interactive Notebooks. Included are 120 Interactive Notebook activities that will help your students understand the meaning of several words related to over 130 different roots! Each root activity covers 3-8 preselected words. However, blank templates are also included so that you can select your own words. In addition to the Interactive Notebook pages, you will also get word and definition lists for each root.

These are fantastic for kids who like visual and interactive work, but they don't work well if the student dislikes or is physically limited with coloring. I have other morpheme interactive notebook bundles that work well when printed on color paper, but these don't work very well for that given the creative and elaborate pictures. I am adding color prior to giving them to my student, and he really enjoys the images.
This resource is a true gem! There are so many good activities and so many roots covered. If you're looking for a word, it's probably here.
Okay, this is amazing. We have used this with multiple children and it is effective. This is a long-term project. Plan on taking a few easy-paced years to complete it. It's so great!!
excellent! Love using this as part of my ELA curriculum.
I love this resource for the few readers I have that are reading above grade level. They don't enjoy the leveled books that come with our curriculum. This activity stretches their thinking because they need to paraphrase some definitions in order for them to fit on the paper. It is also cause them to pay more attention to to these word parts in their reading.
Would you please add the Greek root "anti" to this packet?

I love this! I only teach Latin though, is there a separate buy for only Latin?
Thanks!!
Hello! I don’t have the Latin activities available separately.
I teach 4th grade and know I can't get through all of these in a year...do you have a list of recommended roots for each grade level?
You most likely won’t be able to get through this in a year—it’s huge! I have a free flip book (link below) that has the most commonly used roots. I’d start with those. https://teacherthrive.com/2015/12/free-vocabulary-builder-flip-book.html
Hello!
I purchased Get to the Root of It Book 1 and I was wondering if the materials for the interactive notebook align with the roots that are included in book 1 of Get to the Root of It? I wanted to double check before I purchase this. Thank you!!
Hi Danielle, All of the roots in Get to the Root of it Books have an activity in the interactive notebook. There actually many more roots in the interactive notebook that are not included in the Get to the Root of It Books.
This notebook is perfect and covers so many Greek and Latin roots that I want to cover with my 5th graders. Do you have word lists and assessments or quizzes that go along with these specific units? For example, a complete word list for words containing ‘ped’ and a quiz to go with. This is a great resource!
Hi Stephanie! I do have this resource that includes assessments. You can download the preview to see what roots are covered. Every root in these books has an activity in the Interactive Notebook resource.

Do you have a version of this that can be used in Google Classroom?
Hello! I do not have a digital version of this resource. Thanks for asking!
Hi, I meant in the notebook, not the free week. I have to teach the following: fact, mega, min, cap, cred, demo, fort, ped, pod, vac, dict, photo, infra, struct, script, manu, aqua, phono, tact, vert, anthro, corp, flect, fract, gram, mort, path, pos, trans, scend, ject, reg, graph, astro, dur, nom, gener, port, mal, retro. Are these included?
Hi Elizabeth. Please download the preview file to see a full list of the roots covered in the Interactive Notebook.
Hi. I really like the G/L Interactive Handouts. I have two now that would not print. I had the school's tech person look at the two pages, but she could not figure out why they would not print. Can I get the page(s) that won't print?
Not to worry. Please contact TpT so they can troubleshoot this with you directly. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact
Do you have any materials like this interactive notebook for the prefixes auto- and tele- ?
Hi Megan,
I do not have INB activities for those morphemes.
Are you going to do these with the Option 1 (hand out) and Option 2 like your Language Interactive Notebook?
Hi Melissa! This resource only comes in the traditional INB format.
Hi,
I noticed that the roots are the same as your G&L roots curriculum and PPT, but some words are different in the interactive notebook. I was hoping to use the three products together. (such as word for mar)
Hi Yvette! While the roots match up, I did use some different words to add variety. However, there are also blank Interactive Notebook pages so you can still use which ever words you like.
