Description
Word analogies are one of the most effective ways to build vocabulary while simultaneously developing critical thinking skills. Unlike vocabulary activities that require students to memorize word definitions, word analogies develop a deep understanding of a word meaning by exploring the relationships between words. When students form logical connections between words, they create a mental network of ideas, which deepens understanding and increases retention. While solving word analogies, students are contextualizing the words as they search for word relationships.
When students work with analogies, they…
•expand and deepen their vocabulary.
•understand the relationships between ideas and words.
•recognize and understand multiple-meaning words.
•think critically and apply logical reasoning.
•learn to decipher word meanings based on context.
•build a network of understanding that improves retention and aids future learning.

Error! I can't open this document anymore.
I purchased this vocabulary last year, and now I am unable to open it. It says that it has special permissions. Please fix it.
I loved having this for STAAR review. They were able to it by themselves
My daughter did not enjoy this at all. We normally always start out in the morning with some worksheets. In this case there were many things that were thrown at her that had little to no explanation and some were completely new to her. I ended up deleting the file since we never use it now. I really thought this would be a good course for us.
<p>Hello, Abigail. Did you see the detailed teaching notes and grammar student handbook included in the resource? Hopefully those tools help explain the concepts.</p>
My students liked this resource as a reinforcement of skills.
I was excited about this resource. But NOTHING about it has been easy. I don't believe the positive reviews, unless they are not using them daily, or they did not mind adjusting the settings on 144 forms because the settings are ridiculous.
1) "We don't use any student identifiers..." That is the DUMBEST thing I have heard of. Did I miss something and teachers have stopped asking their students to write their names on their papers because we don't need to identify whose work is whose anymore?? As of now, when 20 kids finish a form, you have NO idea who's response is whose. No joke. What the actual heck? So plan on opening 144 forms and setting EVERY ONE to collect email addresses (or whatever you prefer, but that's the easiest for my students).
2) To create the forms, you have to click on an individual link, click make a copy, and then you have the word "copy of" in front of every form. There are lots of better ways the seller could have gone about this with a little research.
3) When I make a form, I try to get the total to be out of 100 points, so that every score is consistent and means something to my students (<70, needs to ask for help from me, 100=all correct, etc.). Every purchased form I've bought has been out of 100 points. These forms are all out of different numbers-8, 16, 22, etc. There is no consistency throughout the week, no way for students to compare scores, and their scores don't means ANYTHING to them or me if I don't have a calculator handy. Just DO BETTER.
4) The other settings are GARBAGE too. Students cannot see the questions that they missed. What kind of teacher doesn't want students to see what they got wrong? I normally DON'T want my students to see correct answers, because I want them to be able to go back and try to find their errors and correct them themselves, BUT on a DAILY SPIRAL, when time is short and they may/may not have been introduced to the topic, I find that student learn a LOT form seeing the correct answer. This setting was also unchecked.
5) There is no logical order to the review questions. There are not models to help compare fractions mid year, just 2 fractions and students are asked to compare. Maybe some schools in Texas teach things in different orders, but we don't teach fractions that early, but they sure as heck could be reviewing place value or multi-step addition/subtraction problems.
If I were selling a product and knew there were 144 individual forms, I would have done the work myself, and given options: This link will give you forms with these settings; This link= these settings...etc. To say that teachers can "easily" change the settings is ridiculous. It is TEDIOUS, easy to miss an important setting like collect EMAILS, and THAT'S WHY I PAID YOU. I should have realized there were teachers out there that don't think about the "little things" and read the fine print or comments before buying.
I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN for the hassle of making these work.

I have used this for the past two years and love it, but I cannot find the Powerpoint anymore. Can you give me some guidance?
Hello, Tricia. If you redownload the resource, you should see the PowerPoints in each file.
I own all of your analogies and I have used them religiously throughout the years because I believe very strongly in their ability to build vocabulary and word cognition just to name a few. However, this year's group is really struggling, with understanding the different relationships analogies can represent. I was wondering if you had (or could make) a single page to print as an anchor chart for the different relationships with analogies? Even having the little foldable sheet isn't enough.
Hello! While I can't commit to creating such a resource, I will definitely add it to a list of possible projects.
Hi! I've owned this amazing product for 2 years now, but recently when I've downloaded it, and tried to open one of the pdfs it won't open. I have no problem downloading it from tpt, its just when i go to open it, it says it can't find it. I've tried on several computers and same thing. Lastly, this doesn't happen with other purchases with pdf's. Is there a way for you to email it to me?
Hi Stepanie! Thank you for reaching out. Can you please tell me which PDF won't open?
Is there a slide show to introduce the 7 types in the 4th grade version?
Thank you!
Anna
Yes, they are available for each grade.
Sorry if the question has been asked, but I purchased Level 6 a few years ago, am now teaching 5th. Would like to purchase the bundle, BUT is there some kind of price break where I would like to get the bundle? No worries, if no can do, because it is still worth it.
Unfortunately, TpT doesn't have function that allows us to easily create custom bundles in a way that ensures customers always have the latest version of their resources, so we don't offer this option on TpT. We do have a Build Your Own Bundle option on our off-site store that you can check out here: https://teacherthrive.com/byob/
Hi! For some reason, the Grade 5 and Grade 6 lists can't be opened. It says there's something wrong with the zip file. Could it be the result of the most recent update, or should I be looking for another issue?
Not to worry. Please contact TpT so they can troubleshoot this with you directly. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Contact
Would you consider bundling 5, 6, 7, and 8 or 6, 7, 8, and 9? I teach 7th, The lower bundle will be way to easy and the upper bundle will be mostly too hard. Never hurts to ask! :)
Thanks for asking. We don't have plans to do so at this time. You can Build Your Own Bundle to receive a discount on the resources, just as you would if there was a bundle listing for what you are looking for.
Will you consider to make Analogies for K-G2? When will you plan to finish it? Thanks
Hi Stephanie, Thank you for your interest. I will definitely consider it for a future project. However, if it is something I am able to complete, it will be several months away.
Where did you get the task card containers?
Hi Donna! They are photo boxes from Michael’s.
How do I access the "force copy" links to use these with google forms?
Hi Charles! When you click on the links within the resource, a window will pop up that says "copy." When you click on that, it will save to your Google Drive. Detailed instructions are included for this beginning on page 271 of the PDF.
