5th Grade Daily GRAMMAR Language Spiral Review Morning Work [Editable] Test Prep
Shonair A.

I like the set-up, but I have to go in and change several things b/c the exercises don't require the students to do what is required of the actual Common Core standard. Ex, students do know figurative language. The Daily Language wants the students to find the origin, meaning & write a sentence. The origin is not part of the standard. I feel it's better for the students to determine the meaning using context clues (instead of just looking it up), then write their own sentence. Instead, I give them a sentence using the idiom. Then they must determine, the meaning using the context clues I've provided in the sentence. Then they must write their own sentence using the idiom. I do the same thing for the proverb/adage on the Wednesday section.
The prefix section- I change it around & have the students to identify the prefix. Determine the meaning of the prefix, then then the meaning of the word. I do understand that when creating this product, it's created to serve teachers all over that may have different standard that they must follow. I'd like to send examples of how I tweak the Daily Language.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. While the origin is not part of the standard, students find this information very interesting and knowing the origin does help students retain the meaning. I will also add that the act of finding the origin is a common core standard: "Consult reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation and determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases." I am happy to hear that you have been able to adapt this resource to meet your teaching needs, though.

Just a heads up- This product does not contain an answer-key. I know those are a bit harder to craft for certain subjects as opposed to others like Mathematics, but for self-evaluation this product will be difficult to use.

Otherwise, excellent materials that we're happy with. We will just have to be crafting our own answer keys.

Teacher Thrive

Hello, Garett.

Yes, an traditional answer key is not applicable for this resource since the work is open-ended. However, completed sample pages are included for each activity.

Laura P.

What fonts did you use for this? Thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Hello. Festivo Letters and Century Gothic

Steve D.

I want to do the spiral-bound option. How do I know the best way to print it?

Teacher Thrive

There is a printing guide towards the beginning of the PDF file, as well as notations on how to print each foldable page.

I have a 7th grader who, at the very least, is a little behind in grammar and could use a solid review. How many lessons are in each interactive notebook? Is it possible for us to start with the 4th-grade notebook and then work our way through the 5th, 6th, and maybe even 7th in one school year?

Teacher Thrive

Hi there! Each Language Interactive Notebook includes 30 activities. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about them being "behind." There is a "race to nowhere" happening in a lot of brick-and-mortar schools that is not serving our children very well. I recommend checking out some of our free grammar and language units to get a better feel of what would be the best place to start for her. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Teacher-Thrive/Price-Range/Free/Search:grammar?ref=filter/price

Our resources are based on common core standards.

CANDICE D.

Can this be used in a composition book?

Teacher Thrive

Yes, absolutely! There are instructions included on how to use these with a composition notebook.

Beth V.

I am trying to decide which grade level to purchase, do you recommend the same level notebook as grammar units? I have 5th grade special education students that are at least 1 grade level below peers.

Teacher Thrive

Thanks for reaching out! Only you know your students, so I would say it is definitely at your discretion. However, this resource is included in the 4th Grade Grammar bundle, so if you were planning on purchasing the 4th Grade Grammar units, this INB would correlate with those directly.

Taylor Made Classroom

Is there a cover page for this that can be printed? I could not find one, but also went through a lot of pages so I definitely could have missed something!

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Since these are designed to fit into a notebook, there is not a cover page included.

Charlana S.

"Do you have How-To videos for each piece?"
My students are making a mess with them. They are hard ever correct. No matter how much I demonstrate for them. If I am not standing over them or completing the assignment with them, they don't make the page correctly. I have printed directed, written directions. I just want to be able to leave an ipad at the center with the video on repeat. Can you make some how to videos please? Like Erin Cobb did for her Interactive Reading Literature Notebook.

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Unfortunately, I don’t have videos for these.

I would also like to see the two formats separated for printing. It is VERY time consuming to print a page, skip a few pages and print again, etc. Thanks! Please let us know when this version is available.

Teacher Thrive

Will do. You’ll get an email when the resource has been updated.
