Description

Almost 70% of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek languages. When students learn these “building blocks” it becomes easy for them to recognize and decode unfamiliar words that are related to a known root. It is also increasingly important to explicitly teach students the meanings of Greek and Latin roots as they encounter the very technical vocabulary found in science and other content areas. This is the digital version of the paper-based Get to the Root of It: Book 1.

What’s Included:

This digital version of the paper-based Get to the Root of It [Book 1] contains 20 units, each containing 10 words for 3 to 4 related roots.

Each unit contains 8 Google Form quizzes:

1. Exercise A: Sentence Completion

3. Exercise C: Choose Two
4. Exercise D: Analogies

6. Exercise F: Apply What You Know
7. Word & Definition Match
8. Unit Assessment

When our new vocab textbooks hadn't come in yet I decided to try something new. This has been a fabulous choice! I love how easy it is to use!

This was a perfect resource for 6th grade! I wanted to find an alternative to spelling words and this was perfect! My students are learning roots and are better able to break down unknown words.

Melissa H.

Such a time saver for distance learning!

Kellee Wilhite

This is an awesome addition to my paper versions of this resource. It is easy to follow and understand. Thanks so much!

I have the paper copy of Roots Book 1 and Two. While we are currently in school right now, I purchased the digital in order to prepare my students for the possiblity of distance learning. For me, this makes grading so much easier!! I introduce the first few units on paper and then I will transition them to the digital. Great Resource.

I love this product! I have been using the paper version of it for a few years now. With distance learning, I will need a digital version of this. Is this a separate purchase or can I upgrade to the digital? Thank you!

Teacher Thrive

Yes, this is a separate resource.

Julie L.

Will there be a bundle for the digital versions of these in the near future? Curious to try them out on my middle school students, but with distance learning upon us, the print versions seem less likely to be used at this time.

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I don’t have plans to create a digital-only bundle. However, you can create your own bundle on my site. Please go to TeacherThrive.com/byob

Can these Google Forms be easily converted to Microsoft Forms?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Julie. I honestly don't know. If you email me, I am happy to send you a couple to test out. info@teacherthrive.com

Any recommendations for uploading all of the Google Forms? It's very time consuming doing them one by one...

Teacher Thrive

You should be able to click on each link and it will force a copy to your google drive. Takes a few seconds per form.

I have loaded the assignments on my classroom following the directions given. The students are able to answer questions, but I am not able to view their responses. Can you please explain how I am able to use the self grading feature, and see each students' response?

Jaime Guidry

You can find your students' responses by clicking on "Responses" at the top of the Google Form.

HIENDIEU RUSSELL

I purchased Book 1. However, the only link in the spreadsheet is that of the bonus materials. Not to the units. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Jaime Guidry

We are sorry you were having trouble finding the units! Hoping you were able to do so. The spreadsheet has two tabs at the bottom, one for the units and one for bonus materials.

Paul Libertini

Why do students need the email address? All of my students are currently on google classroom but do not have email enabled. They are only in 4th grade.

Jaime Guidry

An email address is not necessary when using Google Classroom, but the students must have a G Suite for Education account.

Once I get to the purchase screen, it says that I can't use this even on my own personal Google Classroom website, yet that is how it is advertised. Please let me know if this can be used online during this educational crisis time.

Jaime Guidry

Hello! We are not sure why you would have gotten that message. Teachers are absolutely allowed to use any Teacher Thrive/Got to Teach resources they have purchased with their students on private Learning Management Systems likes Google Classroom, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, or Canvas.
