I love this product,it is my daily opener for class.

This has been wonderful bellwork, well-aligned with the common core.

I just started this in January and my students LOVE IT!!! It covers so much more that my old Daily Oral Language which was proofing and identifying parts of speech. This covers areas that usually aren't covered. Plus, I love seeing them think and getting the answers! Thank you!!

Class with Cass

This has been a really interesting and CHALLENGING activity for my students. During 1st semester, we did Daily Grammar Practice with a few personal tweaks. I could see that my students were getting tired of that format, so I looked for something new and found this. Wow. They come in and get started right away. My routine is for them to have this out and ready before the bell and to work on it individually for a few minutes. Then, I ask them to compare answers with an "elbow-partner" and they really do discuss! We quickly go over the day on the smartboard, either with me writing in the answers on the blank page or showing the answer key page. I LOVE the vocabulary and emphasis on tough concepts.

Hi there!

I am so excited I found this product! I was wondering, however, how this actually looks in the classroom. As I was looking through the sample, I noticed it covers a lot of things that I am not sure my students necessarily know yet... do you teach them the information before hand and then have it on the 5 a day? Or, do you tell them to do it for homework and do their best and then teach it when you're reviewing it the next day?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I find that the best way to use this is to begin with whole group lessons where you model and discuss each of the activities. I don't worry too much if there hasn't been a formal lessons on a particular concept; I treat those items more of a preview. After a few weeks, the students really start grasping the format and you can begin to transfer the workload to them. Eventually, when the students are working independently on the review, you will simply spend time correcting and discussing their work in class.

Nichole W.

Is there an answer key provided?

Teacher Thrive

Hi Nichole! Yes there is.

Christine V.

Hello,

The 8th grade 5 a day spiral ELA resource looks awesome! Any chance I can get the "teacher notes" pages in an editable version? I would like to be able to copy/paste notes for my students, leaving out the teacher prompts. Even with my Adobe subscription it will not let me convert and edit.

Thanks again for making this!!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Christine!

Could you email your request with you username and date of purchase? Thanks! GotToTeach.com

Karissa Holt

Hello! I was wondering if there is any way to make your Language Reviews editable? My district makes you upload documents to a district print site for every single thing that you want to print, and on their platform you can't select which pages to print, just the whole document. I'd love to be able to extract pages from the whole document using Adobe so I can print them a few weeks at a time.

Thank you!

Karissa

Teacher Thrive

Hi Karissa. Would a version with just the student pages in one file work? Could you email me with your username and date of purchase?

Thanks,

Melissa

I would like recommendations on how this is most effective in the classroom. I have 40 minute periods and find that sometimes my bellwork takes longer than I would like it to. I would prefer not to spend more than 10 minutes on it each day, so that I can jump into a 30 minute lesson. What have you found works best? (I did read some seller comments, but would like to hear your take.) Do you assign parts as homework? Give time to work on a portion in class and finish for homework? Do you collect it weekly for a grade? Oh, and have you considered creating a final assessment of sorts - maybe even a mid-year assessment to see how they are doing with the skills?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! I would assign a section for homework each night and then spend 10 minutes correcting in class. On Fridays I'd give the students the exact same pages from the week as a closed book quiz. This holds them accountable for not only completing the work during the week, but also paying attention when you are correcting and explaining in class. I don't have plans for adding any assessments at this time, but it is something I will keep in mind.
