5th Grade Daily MATH and GRAMMAR Spiral Review Bundle Test Prep
Abigail S.

My daughter did not enjoy this at all. We normally always start out in the morning with some worksheets. In this case there were many things that were thrown at her that had little to no explanation and some were completely new to her. I ended up deleting the file since we never use it now. I really thought this would be a good course for us.

Teacher Thrive

<p>Hello, Abigail. Did you see the detailed teaching notes and grammar student handbook included in the resource? Hopefully those tools help explain the concepts.</p>

3rd Grade Daily Math Spiral Review [DIGITAL]
Laura K.

I was excited about this resource. But NOTHING about it has been easy. I don't believe the positive reviews, unless they are not using them daily, or they did not mind adjusting the settings on 144 forms because the settings are ridiculous.

1) "We don't use any student identifiers..." That is the DUMBEST thing I have heard of. Did I miss something and teachers have stopped asking their students to write their names on their papers because we don't need to identify whose work is whose anymore?? As of now, when 20 kids finish a form, you have NO idea who's response is whose. No joke. What the actual heck? So plan on opening 144 forms and setting EVERY ONE to collect email addresses (or whatever you prefer, but that's the easiest for my students).

2) To create the forms, you have to click on an individual link, click make a copy, and then you have the word "copy of" in front of every form. There are lots of better ways the seller could have gone about this with a little research.

3) When I make a form, I try to get the total to be out of 100 points, so that every score is consistent and means something to my students (<70, needs to ask for help from me, 100=all correct, etc.). Every purchased form I've bought has been out of 100 points. These forms are all out of different numbers-8, 16, 22, etc. There is no consistency throughout the week, no way for students to compare scores, and their scores don't means ANYTHING to them or me if I don't have a calculator handy. Just DO BETTER.

4) The other settings are GARBAGE too. Students cannot see the questions that they missed. What kind of teacher doesn't want students to see what they got wrong? I normally DON'T want my students to see correct answers, because I want them to be able to go back and try to find their errors and correct them themselves, BUT on a DAILY SPIRAL, when time is short and they may/may not have been introduced to the topic, I find that student learn a LOT form seeing the correct answer. This setting was also unchecked.

5) There is no logical order to the review questions. There are not models to help compare fractions mid year, just 2 fractions and students are asked to compare. Maybe some schools in Texas teach things in different orders, but we don't teach fractions that early, but they sure as heck could be reviewing place value or multi-step addition/subtraction problems.

If I were selling a product and knew there were 144 individual forms, I would have done the work myself, and given options: This link will give you forms with these settings; This link= these settings...etc. To say that teachers can "easily" change the settings is ridiculous. It is TEDIOUS, easy to miss an important setting like collect EMAILS, and THAT'S WHY I PAID YOU. I should have realized there were teachers out there that don't think about the "little things" and read the fine print or comments before buying.

I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN for the hassle of making these work.

I teach 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, ELA. Do you have a bundle for the ELA language review for multiple grade levels? Thank you

Teacher Thrive

To ensure all buyers have access to the latest versions of my resources, I do not create custom bundles. Unfortunately, there is no function for buyers to create their own bundles on TpT.

However, I do offer a Build Your Own Bundle option on my site. You can check out all of the details here: https://teacherthrive.com/byob/

I have used this with other grades before and just bought 4th grade edition this year. But isn't there suppose to be a quiz on Fridays? There wasn't a Friday quiz included... Is that separate??

Teacher Thrive

Hello, Jessica! Thanks for asking. I have always sold the quizzes separately. However, I do have a bundle with the review and the quizzes here: https://teacherthrive.com/product/4th-grade-grammar-spiral-review-weekly-assessment-printable-test-prep/

Bais Chaya M.

Hi! Is the viral Review included in the Grammar and Language Bundle?

Teacher Thrive

Hello! No, this is a separate resource.

Gail K.

Hello, I have purchased all of your grade levels. As an ELA tutor, I need them all. However, when using them I wonder if I am employing them correctly. For example, if I use your book 7 with my grade 7 tutee, start week 1 at start of school year, has he been taught these 20 grammar concepts. If so, then would this mean book 7 is actually a 36 week review of concepts taught in grade 6? I find it confusing reviewing the same concepts in week 1 as week in week 36. Hope I've made sense here.

Teacher Thrive

This resource is not designed around a particular scope and sequence since so many teachers follow different timelines.

Since Daily Spiral Reviews cover all standards, students are exposed to concepts that they may not have had formal instruction on. This presents a great opportunity for you to build background knowledge and assess where your students are before you even teach a specific lesson.

I find that the best way to use this is to begin with whole group lessons where you model and discuss each of the activities. I don't worry too much if there haven't been formal lessons on a particular concept; I treat those items more as a preview. After a few weeks, the students really start grasping the format and you can begin to transfer the workload to them. Eventually, when the students are working independently on the review, you will simply spend time correcting and discussing their work in class.

As mentioned above, students will encounter concepts they are unfamiliar with.  This is a GOOD thing, I promise! We don’t always have the answers or know the procedures to solve problems.  It’s healthy to expose students to “unknowns”; they become less sensitive to the uncomfortable feeling of “not knowing” and are less likely to panic.

However, you can always use the editable version (open in PowerPoint) to remove/change any review items you like.

I bought the set but didn't get the assessments or answer key

Michele K.

Do you have a resource that teaches each of the standards in the language review? I teach talented and gifted and it would be great if there was a mini lesson resource went along with the everything in the review.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Michele! Thanks for reaching out! You might be interested in my 4th Grade Grammar Bundle which covers one topic per unit. https://teacherthrive.com/product/fourth-grade-grammar-bundle/

Linda Gessner

Hello again!
I purchased the program and assessments. It starts out rigorously. Are there lessons you use along with these? Is there a specific Language/Grammar Lesson Guide that is complementary to these DLI Review sheets and you can refer me to? I'm working in a private school that has no ELA books, so I'm creating from scratch. Thank you so much!

Teacher Thrive

Hi Linda! I don't worry too much if there hasn't been a formal lesson on a particular concept; I treat those items as more of a preview. After a few weeks, the students really start grasping the format, and you can begin to transfer the workload to them. Eventually, when the students are working independently on the review, you will simply spend time correcting and discussing their work in class. I find that the best way to use this is to begin with whole group lessons where you model and discuss each of the activities. This is a stand-alone resource.

Linda Gessner

I purchased the digital version not realizing the new school where I'll be teaching doesn't have computers in the classrooms. Therefore, I need the paper version. Just want to make sure this is something I can print out and use in my classroom and it includes the Friday assessments before I buy this one too.
Thank you!

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Yes, this is the printable version! Just like the digital version, the Friday assessments are separate. You can find them here: https://teacherthrive.com/product/4th-grade-weekly-grammar-assessments/

Jodi Loubier

Hi! We love this resource but are wondering if you be updating these to include the new Florida BEST Standards?

Teacher Thrive
