Description

“Book Bits” are carefully selected snippets of information from the book. There are 47 “Book Bits”, however, you will only need one for each student; you can pick and choose which ones you like the most.

1. Give each student a “Book Bit”. The students will read their individual “Book Bits” and be allowed a little time to ponder and reflect on what they say (e.g., What impressions are they gathering about the book?).

2. Have the students move around the classroom, reading their “Book Bit” to every other student, while also listening to the other students’ “Book Bits”. No discussion or interpretation occurs at this point; they are simply reading to each other.

3. After hearing the other students’ “Book Bits”, students can then do a quick write on the impressions they now have about the book (What is this book about? What can we infer about the characters?, What might happen in the story? etc.)

4. After the quick write, students can discuss with each other in pairs, small groups, and eventually whole group.

5. The “Book Bit” quick write can then be revisited after students have read more of the book, or have completed the book.

6th Grade Daily GRAMMAR Language Spiral Review Morning Work [Editable] Test Prep
Angela B.

These daily reviews align beautifully with 6th grade common core curriculum. I used them for about half the year and my students were able to get a relatively firm grasp of all the concepts. We found some of the root word exercises to be a bit random, frustrating, inapplicable to 6th grade. Students also eventually became bored with the repetitive weekly work and were able to identify patterns that led to shortcuts in work completion and therefore less absorption. This is when we switched to other grammar exercises for the rest of the year.
Would I use this again. Definitely. It has its merits. I would probably provide more focused teaching on each concept, skip or replace some root words exercises and spread out the weekly worksheets to every other or every third week throughout the year. I also found the companion weekly assessments program very helpful for summative assessment and will use that again too.

Greek and Latin Roots Sketch Notes Morphology: Book 1

I was excited to use these, but honestly my students didn't find them engaging. They look cool when colored and finished but will need to be supplemented with other meaningful, more authentic ways to actually use the vocabulary.

I can't get my computer to print the PDF. Is there something I need to do?

Please make sure that you are opening in the latest version of Adobe reader. If you contact TpT they can also help you if that doesn't work.

Can you make one of these for True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle? :-)

Teacher Thrive

Yes!!! It's in the works, but might be about a month before I finish. I go back to work in two weeks so it's going to be a bit crazy. Thanks for your interest.

UPDATE: A novel unit for True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is now available!
