Description
“Book Bits” are carefully selected snippets of information from the book. There are 50 “Book Bits”, however, you will only need one for each student; you can pick and choose which ones you like the most.
1. Give each student a “Book Bit”. The students will read their individual “Book Bits” and be allowed a little time to ponder and reflect on what they say (e.g., What impressions are they gathering about the book?).
2. Have the students move around the classroom, reading their “Book Bit” to every other student, while also listening to the other students’ “Book Bits”. No discussion or interpretation occurs at this point; they are simply reading to each other.
3. After hearing the other students’ “Book Bits”, students can then do a quick write on the impressions they now have about the book (What is this book about? What can we infer about the characters?, What might happen in the story? etc.)
4. After the quick write, students can discuss with each other in pairs, small groups, and eventually whole group.
5. The “Book Bit” quick write can then be revisited after students have read more of the book, or have completed the book.

We did a type of gallery walk with these, where I gave students sentence stems and the cards. The students walked around, and traded cards. At the end they described what type of story they thought it would be. Great resource!
Amazing resource! I loved using this with my students when introducing the unit and the kids loved finding their "book bit" within the book as we were reading.
Great way to introduce the text. My students loved getting a preview and everyone was very engaged.
During my last novel study I did this activity as a "Quote Cafe". The students loved it and it really helped them build up some foundational knowledge of the book. There are so many quotes included and they look cool too. It allowed me to pick and choose which ones would work best for my class.
This was a great way to get into the novel. I had half of my students familiar with the novel, half not. Using these specific lines helped all to establish ideas of where the book will take us.

I just purchased "Book Bits" for The Lightning Thief and the document is failing to load. I have tired on multiple computers and have the same problem. Is there another way you can send the document. I would love to use this with my students next week if possible.
