Description
Time to Tile: 2 by 2 Add and Subtract is a hands-on activity that takes students’ thinking beyond the procedures and rote memorization of double-digit addition and subtraction. This engaging resource activates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, all while building a true understanding of adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. Students must place 10 number tiles (0-9) on the Time to Tile cards to correctly complete two addition and two subtraction problems.
This resource is now provided in printable and digital formats (Google Slides).
This resource includes:
- 30 different Time to Tile PRINTABLE cards
- An “Answer Recording Sheet,” where students can record their answers so they can be corrected later. This allows the resource to be used as a perfect independent or center activity.

I have quite a few of these, great for morning math warm up.
My students love these puzzles. I use them mostly as early finishers work, but I have also used them as a station in math class. I love how they have a recording sheet for accountability. Puzzles are challenging for some, but very appropriate for my third graders.
Number Tiles are fantastic for enrichment and early-finisher purposes! Great problem-solving and perseverance practice!
Helped my students use strategies for a topic that has been difficult for them.
