Description
I made these reading comprehension strategy cards based on my all-time favorite professional development book; Strategies that Work, by Harvey and Goudvis. These cards can be used in multiple settings (e.g., Guided Reading, Shared Reading, etc.) and with any level text. I print them on colored card stock, laminate, and the kids use post-its on them. However, they can also be printed on plain paper and used as traditional graphic organizer.
There is one card for each strategy:
-Determining Importance,
-Making Connections
-Visualizing
-Synthesizing
-Inferring*
-Asking Questions*
* Inferring and Asking Questions cards have two unique sides. The other cards are meant to have two identical sides.
6 reading strategy posters have been added 2/22/16.

Thank you!
I am soooo going to use this on coloured card for their post-its! I think my students will love the organisation!
Thank you very much.
Looking forward to using these!
Thank you for the feedback!
Again, this is brilliant work and you are to be highly congratulated! I am studying my PhD in the teaching of reading and your work is sensational. These are possibly some of the best ideas I have seen to support the teaching of reading (your depth and complexity resources as well)...Congratulations and thanks so much for sharing. I would love to network with you. Kylie TPT: Ripper Resources Pinterest: kyjac

Would it be possible to have non American spelling for these cards? Synthsise and visualise specifically.
Hi Sally! At this time I can't customize my resources to follow U.K. spelling.
Before I review this, I have to say that I love your stuff. However, I'm super confused by the 2nd page with the inference directions. I don't quite "get" what is supposed to happen on the Quote --> My question --> Possible answer section. Would it be "possible theme"? Just looking for a little more direction on how that side works. Thanks.
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the questions. Yes, this relates to theme or big ideas in the text. Students should do the following: While reading, find a sentence or picture that represents a theme, or a “big idea”, of the story”. Themes stir emotions. Write down the sentence or describe the picture that makes you infer a theme. Then write down your inference.
Can the posters also be printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper?
They can if you select "shrink to fit". However, they won't fill the entire page.
Hello! I love how your products have complexity and require deeper thinking. When your students complete this activity, do they work together in groups or do they complete this individually?
Hi Lauren! I have had the students complete these in pairs, groups, and individually depending on the text. You can really apply them in multiple ways.
Could you tell me what size the posters will be when printed? Thanks so much!
Hello! They will be legal size. 8.5 x 14.
Hi! Could I edit these cards to fit more into my classroom?? Thanks! Ryan
Hello! Thanks for your interest. I do not have an editable version of this resource.
