Great Literature Circle Resource
This Depth & Complexity Literature Circles resource is an outstanding way to elevate student discussions and push deeper thinking. I love how it transforms traditional literature circles into something much more meaningful by aligning each role with critical thinking concepts like Big Ideas, Ethics, Multiple Perspectives, and Patterns.

Hi. Do you have the Depth and Complexity Posters available? One of the teachers where I was student teaching had them on her walls. They are beautiful. Please let me know. Thanks, Jen
Hi Jen! I have a set of posters here. http://teacherthrive.com/2017/02/free-depth-and-complexity-icon-posters.html
Hey! I love your resource, and just saw the buyer who mentioned the digital version. That was going to be my comment as well, but I cannot thank you enough for this resource, it's truly challenging for my 4th grade kiddos!
Hello! I don’t have plans for digital version at this time, but thank you for your interest.
I just purchased your depth and complexity literature circle activity and your icons don't match the Depth and Complexity icons used by JTaylor. This is going to mess with my students. Obviously, I didn't notice and am curious why you don't use their icons.
Hi Angie! The icons that you are referring to are the creative expression of another person, which is protected under copyright law. Unless the icons were created under the same US Dept. of Education grant as Depth and Complexity (which is something I am looking into), I don't feel comfortable using them. The resource does include versions without icons.
Do you have these in editable form? There are just a few tweaks I would need to make in order to use. Thanks!
Hello! Unfortunately, this resource was created in Adobe Illustrator, so I am unable to provide an editable version. Thank you for asking.
I teach fourth grade and would like to incorporate literature circles this year. Do you have the students tread the text before they meet or do they read a chapter together? If they read together, does that take most of the time up?
Hello Dina! No, I don't have them read it together. They read an assigned portion of the text and complete their jobs on their own, and then they meet to share and discuss.
So pretty! Do you have this and your other products with the original icons?
Thanks! No, I only have them with the icons I created.
Hi! I would love to know if there is a version of this that is a Google doc so that I can push it out through Google Classroom. Thanks!
Hi Melissa! I don't have a digital version, but will look into this for a future update.
Hello! I am new to Lit Circles, and had a few questions about your product, but couldn't find a blog post on this product. How frequently do you have students rotate jobs within a book? Do you ever double up jobs, if students are interested? I apologize if this is listed within the purchased product, but I'm trying to wrap my head around changing to Lit Circles before purchasing anything! Thanks!
Hi Jessica! I had student meet 2 to 3 times a week, and each week they would switch jobs. However, this resource is very adaptable to just about any schedule.
Hi there!
I am wondering if you used this when you still taught fourth grade. I teach at school where the the majority of the children come to to fourth grade reading well above grade level. Often times 5th or 6th grade and beyond. We still have a few at or a bit below grade level. I was planning to start literature circle in our second trimester (beginning of November) and this looks so good!
Thanks so much!
Hi Stephanie! I think it will work very well. I've used it in 5th with no problem, and since you'll be working with advanced, readers it will definitely be appropriate.
Hi is it possible that with purchase I can get an editable copy? I would like to change some of the names around because I have students for 2 years.
Thanks!
L.
