Description

These fifth-grade math sketch notes (AKA doodle pages) are a powerful learning and teaching tool for the standard algorithm of long division with a two-digit divisor. They cover essential math concepts and procedures for students in a visually appealing way. You can use this resource to supplement any math curriculum, and they are perfect for previewing/pre-teaching or reviewing/reinforcing.

These sketch pages are like mini anchor charts that your students actively create and can be referred to in the future.

While these were specifically created for 5th grade, there are no grade-level indicators on the student materials, so you can use these with older students.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • Blank student note page (two sizes: 8.5 × 11 & composition notebook size for INBs)
  • Detailed answer key
  • Step-by-step PowerPoint

GUIDED NOTE-TAKING

Guiding your students through the note-taking process is so easy and requires almost zero preparation!

  1. PowerPoint: Each sketch note page comes with a step-by-step PowerPoint that you can use to guide your students as they complete their notes.
  2. Document Camera: Use a document camera to project a blank copy of the notes. Use the answer key provided to complete the note page in front of your students.

WHY SKETCH?

Sketch notes present your students with a meaningful and engaging activity they will love. Doodle note-taking activates verbal and visual modalities to capture concepts. The whole brain is absorbed in hearing, synthesizing, and retaining ideas. This high level of engagement helps students retain the content and leaves little room for distraction.

Hi, I'm having the same issue for #23, #40, & #42 where one of the powerpoints says it's too big to open on my google drive. Part 1 says it's 102.8 MB.

Teacher Thrive

Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for letting me know. I reformatted the PowerPoints in #23 and #42 so they are all under 100 MB. However, the PowerPoints in #40 are all smaller than 100 MB and should upload and open fine in Google Slides. Please let me know if you're still having issues with #40

TLC Creations

You replied below about opening in ppt and breaking into smaller parts. I cannot do this. Please send it to me in smaller files.

Teacher Thrive

Can you please contact your school IT admin to see what your Google Drive file size limit is? I already have the files broken down to the standard file size limit. It sounds like your district has a lower size limit.

TLC Creations

I can't open part 1 in Google Slides because the file is too large.

Teacher Thrive

Most Google Drive accounts have a max file size of 100mb. Your district/organization might have a lower limit. You may have to open the file in PowerPoint and split the presentation in two more parts.

Math is Fun

It seems as if the Power Points are missing from this resource too - the only thing that is available when downloaded is a PDF.

Teacher Thrive

Oh, dear! I am so sorry about that. I just corrected this. Thank you so much for letting me know.
