A great resource for Intervention!
I like the set-up, but I have to go in and change several things b/c the exercises don't require the students to do what is required of the actual Common Core standard. Ex, students do know figurative language. The Daily Language wants the students to find the origin, meaning & write a sentence. The origin is not part of the standard. I feel it's better for the students to determine the meaning using context clues (instead of just looking it up), then write their own sentence. Instead, I give them a sentence using the idiom. Then they must determine, the meaning using the context clues I've provided in the sentence. Then they must write their own sentence using the idiom. I do the same thing for the proverb/adage on the Wednesday section.
The prefix section- I change it around & have the students to identify the prefix. Determine the meaning of the prefix, then then the meaning of the word. I do understand that when creating this product, it's created to serve teachers all over that may have different standard that they must follow. I'd like to send examples of how I tweak the Daily Language.
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. While the origin is not part of the standard, students find this information very interesting and knowing the origin does help students retain the meaning. I will also add that the act of finding the origin is a common core standard: "Consult reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation and determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases." I am happy to hear that you have been able to adapt this resource to meet your teaching needs, though.
Kind of high expectations before reading -- concepts are challenging for many younger students with nothing concrete from which to build references. With the right group, it would be great.
great resource
Very clear. My only suggestion would be more text structures and lines in the boxes.

Hi, I purchased the product awhile back. But not my school is not allowing us to print with pictures because of ink storage. Do you have a version with just the text. Thank you
Hello! Unfortunately, I do not have versions with out graphics.
I love your resources and have been using them for years. Due to recent events, will you be replacing your Cesar Chavez article? Thank you.
Thank you for your thoughtful question—it’s one I’ve been carefully considering as well. We’re living in a time when new information, perspectives, and even allegations—both substantiated and unsubstantiated—can emerge quickly, and public figures are often reevaluated through that lens.
Over the years, I’ve created passages on many notable individuals, with the goal of helping students build fluency while learning about historically significant people and events. When questions arise about a figure, I try to approach the situation thoughtfully and responsibly, keeping both educational value and age-appropriateness in mind.
At this time, I am reviewing the César Chávez passage and considering whether any updates, revisions, or additional context are warranted. My goal is not to present individuals as flawless, but to provide balanced, accurate, and meaningful content that supports learning.
I truly appreciate you reaching out—these conversations matter, and they help inform the work I do.
Hi again! I wanted to see if you had planned on making a sixth grade reading review? Using some of our data, these reading skills with short answer are necessary, so I think I’m going to buy 3rd, 4th, and eventually 6th for my guided reading weekly.
Hello, Tony! Thank you so much for asking. At this time, I do not have plans to create a 6th grade version.
The passages look like something I could use in small groups. I was wondering what the range of lexile level was for these passages?
Hello, Darla!
Unfortunately, I don't have exact Lexile levels for these passages. However, they are all written within the common Lexile levels for 5th grade (750L-950L).
How do you edit the questions? I would like to put in a few multiple choice questions from time to time. Trying to assess all written response questions for a lot of students is a daunting task each week. Plus students also need to be able to answer multiple choice questions for our state tests.
Hello, Jerilyn. This resource comes with an editable Word Doc (which you can open in Google Docs. There are no multiple choice questions included. However, you can reformat any of the short-answer questions to create your own.
Are you still planning on having a 6th grade version of this?
Hello, Courtney! Thank you for asking. At this time, I don't have plans to create a 6th-grade version.
Hi! The picture of your product shows the fourth grade edition. Is this in fact the fourth grade edition or the fifth grade edition? I teach fifth grade and want to make sure I get the correct version.
Hi Sabrina! Sorry for the confusion. Yes, this is the 5th-grade version. The cover had the wrong label, but I just corrected that. Thank you for letting me know.
I know it has been asked but would you please consider making an assessment for for the end of the week? I’d love to see those critical important standards being tested on so I can progress monitor throughout the year? I know I’m not alone in thinking this! Please :)
Hello, Tony. I appreciate you asking. This is something I’ll definitely consider when I get through some big projects.
Do these meet TEKS
I have the non-fiction already, do you have just the fiction? Thank you
This resource only comes with both fiction and nonfiction. I’m not sure how you have only the non-fiction passages, but they were never sold separately.
