Excellent
This resource proved very useful. It really guided my class in this activity
Perfect Homework Practice
I use these for my weekly homework and the texts are very engaging and the questions are great for open response practice.
Amazing Resource
My district does guided reading where we conference with students for 10-15 min at a time. I use these passages to chunk mini lessons tailored to each student. I use the questions for the standards they need focus in and have students practice those, vocab, and reading fluency. There are so many passages to chose from that can also coordinate with genre goals! Love it!
Such a handy resource
I have used these for multiple year levels and I think they're brilliant. They're great for a daily practice/review of skills being taught. Highly recommend.
Great product
I purchased this resource looking for additional reading practice that wasn't tied to a specific curriculum, and it has been a great addition to my 5th-grade classroom. The passages are well-written, engaging, and cover a nice variety of fiction and nonfiction topics. I especially appreciate that the questions require students to go back into the text and support their thinking rather than simply recall details.

Hello! I purchased this a few years ago and LOVE it! I use it every year. I was wondering if this has ever been updated or changed in the past few years... If not, do you provide an editable version of the stories? In the "Autism" story in particular, I would like to edit certain sentences to be more inclusive to others in my classes that may be on the spectrum. For example, "Jenny's parents knew something was wrong soon after she was born" to maybe something along the lines of they knew she was different. Or "Children with autism often have a hard time sitting still" to something like 'Some children with autism can have a hard time sitting still.' Minor tweaks to some of the wording throughout the story like that... I think this story/article is so important for my students to learn about and would love to use it.
***EDIT: Yes, I see that I can edit the questions. I am inquiring about editing the "Autism" story itself to be more inclusive. Thank you!
Hi Kira-Shanti! This resource includes an option to edit student questions. When you download the zip folder, there is a folder included titled "Editable Questions." Let us know if you have any questions!
These passages look amazing! I'm looking for something similar that has both multiple choice and written responses questions. Do you have something that has both? Thanks!
Hi there! Our 5th Grade Nonfiction Text Structure bundle is all multiple-choice! https://teacherthrive.com/product/5th-grade-nonfiction-text-structures-reading-comprehension/
Are these available to purchase separately?
Thanks for reaching out! No, the passages are not available to purchase individually.
Are there assessments related to these like with the math and language?
Thanks for reaching out! No, there are no assessments that go along with the Reading Spiral Reviews.
I am very excited to use your resource but I was curious about the order. I was reviewing the table and contents and was wondering if you suggest sticking to the order of the stories. For example I was thinking of waiting on the boycott article until Jan or Feb when we talk about civil rights. I just wasn't sure if there was a method to the order and didn't want to mess anything up.
Hi Amanda! Thanks for reaching out. I recommend they be taught in the order in which they appear. However, you can absolutely use certain passages for those specific themes!
