A great routine in my ELA class

I used this daily grammar as bellwork. My students got into the routine quickly of completing a column of grammar when they first came into my classroom.

Would you please change the Grade 5 to Book 5 as you did with the sixth grade product? I use this with sixth-graders as well. Thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Yes! I will have this completed by Tuesday.

Hi - this is in follow-up to my Sept. 24th question. Thanks for your reply. I'm looking at the homework sheet for this week (#4). It is the same issue as last week's homework and I do not see "affix/affixes" as you said I should. Instead the question asks for the correct "SUFFIX/SUFFIXES". I'm scratching my head. Should I ask her teacher about this? I can upload a photo and post the link if that helps.

Teacher Thrive

You might be using an old version. Please go into you TpT account and download the latest file. That should resolve the problem. Let me know if for some reason it doesnt.

Brandy S.

Ok, started using your product last year, and I love it, but my students have a very hard time finding idiom meanings online. Where do you have your students get the meanings and origins from?

Teacher Thrive

Here are a couple of sites I used when making the resource. Also, students should be able to find information by doing an Internet search; for example: "origin (or meaning) of a bird in the hand..". Etc.

I think there is an error on Wednesday of Week 3, in the 5th Grade 5-a-day language review. Question #4 says "add the correct suffix/suffixes:, but my daughter and I can only think of a PREFIX that produces a correct answer. The sentence is: My students were confused yesterday, so I will ____ the lesson today. thanks!

Teacher Thrive

Thanks for contacting me. I am traveling all day today and won't have access to my computer. Hang tight and I'll be able to look into this by the end of the day Th.

UPDATE: Thank you for your patience! The question says "affix/affixes," not "suffix/suffixes." So the correct answer would be "reteach," using only a prefix and no suffix. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I tried to save this file on my flash drive and print it at my school printer, but it will not let me print the file from my flash drive. How can I print the file? My personal printer cannot handle a file this large. Thank you for this resource, I just want to be able to print it for my students.

Teacher Thrive

You definitely should be able to print it from your flash drive. Please make sure you are opening and printing the file from the latest version of Adobe Reader. That should fix an issues you might be having. Let me know if this doesn't work.

Robin D.

I am confused. On my computer screen, every page has a lovely heading "5-a-Day Language Review" at the top. When it prints, and I've tried several times, it has " - - L i : "
I thought that perhaps this was a way of helping teachers fill in the Common Core strand, but I don't want to use that. Am I missing something? I know it's a large document, and printed it in its entirety to hole punch and keep in a binder. I tried reprinting specific pages, but see the same heading every time. Any help would be appreciated! THANK YOU! I appreciate all the skills covered!

Teacher Thrive

Hello! Are you opening and printing the file from the latest version of Adobe Reader? It should print just like you see it on your monitor.

stephanie C.

Opening them in Adobe Reader works perfectly!!! Thanks for your help!

Teacher Thrive

Oh yay!!!! I secure all my resources in Adobe Pro (most teachers on TpT do) so if there is ever an issue, please try Adobe Reader. Sorry for the inconvenience!

stephanie C.

No, They are being opened in PDF Architect. I will try Adobe Reader right now.

Teacher Thrive

Okay, let me know if that works.

stephanie C.

Please HELP! I purchased both the 4th and 5th 5-a day Language Review on August 11, 2014. I am very excited about using them in my classroom. I was printing the first week out for both of them and when they print the phrase "taco tico sbr miafozzle" is on every page of both the 4th and 5th. They are unable to be used like that. Please advise on what I can do. I had to download both of them twice because the first download was accidentally erased. Could that be the problem? Thanks for your help!

Teacher Thrive

Hi there! That is very strange. Are you opening them with the latest version of Adobe Reader?

Paige Thompson

How do you generally have students look up the meaning of the idioms and other figurative language? Do you complete these with the students or have them work alone or in pairs?

Teacher Thrive

The first couple of weeks we look them up online together. I will even show them how to compare information from more than one site and how to determine the reliability of certain sites. After that the kids are pretty good at completing these. If there is ever a discrepancy, the students can do further research. I have also had the students work in partners, so that is definitely an option, as well.
