Description
These third-grade math sketch notes (AKA doodle pages) are a powerful learning and teaching tool for one-step word problems using all four operations (addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division). They cover essential math concepts and procedures for students in a visually appealing way. You can use this resource to supplement any math curriculum, and it is perfect for previewing/pre-teaching or reviewing/reinforcing.
These sketch pages are like mini anchor charts that your students actively create and can be referred to in the future.
While these were specifically created for 3rd grade, the student materials do not have grade-level indicators, so you can use them with older students.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
- Blank student note page (two sizes: 8.5 × 11 & composition notebook size for INBs)
- Detailed answer key
- Step-by-step PowerPoint
GUIDED NOTE-TAKING
Guiding your students through the note-taking process is so easy and requires almost zero preparation!
- PowerPoint: Each sketch note page comes with a step-by-step PowerPoint that you can use to guide your students as they complete their notes.
- Document Camera: Use a document camera to project a blank copy of the notes. Use the answer key provided to complete the note page in front of your students.
WHY SKETCH?
Sketch notes present your students with a meaningful and engaging activity they will love. Doodle note-taking activates verbal and visual modalities to capture concepts. The whole brain is absorbed in hearing, synthesizing, and retaining ideas. This high level of engagement helps students retain the content and leaves little room for distraction.

I had a hard time assembling it.
ok, need more time to work out technical issues.
Hi there! Please let me know if you help opening or printing the file. You can also contact TPT for help with technical issues.
I am a visual person. Would love to have a few pictures as to how to assemble.
Hmmm, this resource has potential, but is confusing as is. What in the world do all of the dfferent icons represent? Also, a sample answer key is missing. Yes, there are multiple answers to the questions, but I have seen other resources offer them anyways. The worksheets also lack definitions or an area to write definitions for key terms used such as irony and paradox. I like the questions, but will have to spend a lot of time making it fit my needs. Seriously, one of the first things that kids are going to ask are what the icons represent. I can't figure it out nor could my husband who is a lawyer!
I am so sorry you are disappointed. This resource is based on The Depth and Complexity Framework. You can find more information about these icons online.

The pages and activities are a bit repetitive. Consistency is great, but I had to change things up otherwise my kids were getting too bored.

I just purchased this resource and all that I could download was the two powerpoints. There are not PDF's to print for the students to write on?
Sorry about that, Jaime! I have just uploaded the complete file, which includes the PDF for students to write on.
